This Mopane (w/stainless fittings) whistle is actually my second whistle from Paul Busman. My first, and the favorite whistle at my household is a delrin w/ brass fittings. My wife compares the sound of all my whistles to that one. I’ve just purchased an older Copeland D that believe it or not has some of the sweet sound of the delrin Busman whistle(not the playing characteristics).

The wooden whistle has a somewhat brighter voice than the delrin. I know Paul feels that this is more likely due to individual nuances and differences in the hand-building process than to actual differences due to materials. Nonetheless the difference exists. I just don’t find myself reaching for this whistle often with the delrin model sitting there needing no extra care. Guess I’m just lazy.

I bought this whistle at a slight discount. It is made from two different wood blanks. I have to say Paul did a masterful job matching the two pieces. It is a beautiful little whistle. Because I bought it for less I guess I can part with it for less-$150.00+$5.00 for shipping would do it.

UPDATE:
I will include another whistle I don’t play(along with the Busman) , a Mack Hoover narrow bore soprano D (brass), for the same price -$150.00-( a 2 for 1 sale?).

Note-- I don’t respond to threads about my own whistles, but I just wanted to explain this a bit.
I try to make each whistle from one piece of wood so the grain matches. In this case, I happened to have one Mopane head piece and one body whose mates had self destructed in the lathe. Rather than waste some beautiful wood, I finished them up into a whistle. Luckily, the color and grain match was quite close. In fact, if you didn’t know better you might not even notice it. Apart from the wood coming from two separate billets, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this whistle.

This really is a visually beautiful, fine playing whistle. I just wanted to make a full disclosure of why I could sell it for so little. I think it might not even be noticed that 2 blanks are used if one wasn’t looking very hard for it!
I did my due diligence with break-in playing times, bore swabs and oiling. I just found it easier/lazier to get that ‘Busman’ flavor from my delrin whistle.
