September whistle offerings (commercial post)

Hi all–
I have some whistles finished and ready to go.

From left to right they are:
D+ whistle in Tiger Maple stained orange.
This one is not for sale. I put it here to show the D+, including offset
C hole at the bottom, and the stain. I can stain Maples ANY color.

C in Birdseye Maple with honey stain.
Tulipwood D
Imbuia D
Cocobolo D
Tiger Maple D-- natural
Olivewood D
Lacewood D
Yellow Acetal D (Acetal is generic for Delrin-- don’t want to rile Dupont…
Black Acetal D
I also have one bored, but unfinished Cocobolo tube long enough to be finished up into either a C or D+ whistle, which would take a week or two to finish.

Here’s a closer view of the wooden ones to better show the grain:

Note that the Birdseye C and the Tulipwood D developed cracks while I was making them. They’re too nice to trash, and the cracks are repaired and are very stabile. You can see them: I can supply pics for anyone interested in these whistles. I’m offering each of them for $25 off the normal price.

Speaking of price, I’ve raised the price of the larger whistles (C and D+) to $265. Making one of these from a 2 foot piece of wood leaves me with a piece too short for a D whistle, so I’m in essence using twice the material, even though those whistles only require an extra inch. Leaves me with some very pretty scrap wood…

Please contact me at paul@busmanwhistles.com for more information on these whistles.

I’ll be starting a new batch very soon so if you’ve been thinking of having a whistle made from some wood you don’t see here, now would be a good time to let me know. These would be ready in December.. Thanks.

Why not make an Eb or E or F from the remaining scrap?

Eb will work.. I think E of F would be beyond the limits of the size body tube I use.
Eb have not proven to be popular, although I am really happy with them-- nice crisp sound and quick response. So, unless people WANT Eb, I still have a lot of pretty scrap..

One other option would be to make hybrid whistles eg a black acetal head on an olivewood body looks pretty sharp. Some dark wood on a maple body would look good too. I’ve made a couple of these and they’ve come out quite nice: definitely one of a kind!

If all else fails, I’ve got some really nice pen blanks…

Wowser! Beautiful work Paul.

Doc

I can second that!
I just got a Birdseye Maple C from Paul (to add to my Kingwood D) and it is beautiful beyond belief. The grain changes - “dances” in the light as it is turned. One of the prettiest pieces of wood I’ve ever seen.
If you like wood, you should take a close look at his man’s whistles. If you like to play very good whistles, you need to look at this man’s whistles. They play easily, clearly; snap from octave to octave yet sound sweet and certain. They play in tune to say the least, and make a new player like me sound good.

Combined with beautiful crafted wood, and musicality, these Busman whistles are some of the best available. For pure beauty of wood, I’d have to say he is the best I’ve been able to find. His finish and quality control are superb. He is easy to work with, keeps you informed each step of the way, and is a class act to boot.

I guess you could say I really like mine!
