I’d just like to say first of all that Tony’s PVC instruments should be selling for a LOT more than this given the quality of the instruments. I recently recieved my Low G, and I must say it is a very impressive piece of work!
What I love most, aside from its 2 1/2 octave range, is the ornamentations are seamless it seems. I’m having a lot of fun with this whistle on slow airs - it’s a little bit of breath requirement more than a High D, needless to say, but this also seems to allow for easier vibrato.
I’m definitely buying a Low D Duo as soon as I can afford it.

Daniel,
I can’t listen until I get home, but, if you give me permission, I’ll put a link to your tune on Clips and Snips. This way the link won’t disappear under the weight of future posts. Also, if you like, I’ll put a side-bar link to your tune page.

Yeah, I think Tony Dixon does some great work. I just ordered a Dixon Polymer Irish Flute from the Whistle Shop.
I was curious, has anyone compared the polymer flute with the flute that’s part of the Low D Duo? I was thinking about getting the low D duo except - honestly - if I’m going to play in the Low D whistle range, I prefer to do so on a flute.
However, I figured if it’s double the price, the quality MUST be better.

Yes. Apples and crabapples. The 3-piece flute is a tapered bore and a real flute. Very nice for the price! The flute that’s part of a duo is cylindrical and fairly thin-walled at the embouchure, causing it to sound breathy, thin and unimpressive.
Glad to hear that I made a good choice - for once.
I read Rich’s reviews about it, which was the last push my credit card needed to come out of the wallet (and Thom finally getting it on his on-line store ).
