I have a Reyburn wide bore low d. I love the sound of it. It’s a bit tough to play at speed. I was wondering how the narrow bore compares in terms of tone and playability. I’ve never heard one.

The tone is very similar on the narrow bore low D compared to the standard bore version. Main difference is the ease of playing the upper octave, it goes right to the top very easily. The bottom end is slightly quieter and of course the entire instrument is quicker due to the fact that there is less volume of air moving. The narrow bore is I believe the same bore as the Overton and the standard bore is the same as Mr. Burke’s.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, Ronaldo. That does help. I’m assuming you haven’t changed the tone from back when.
I came close to selling the wide bore a few times, alway with ambivalence. Recently, someone emailed me offering to buy it. I accepted the offer, but asked myself if I would regret it. I have been recently practicing with it more and it was starting to behave for me. Then I brought it to a house session for a friend to try who’s good on low whistle. He struggled with it, not being used to the breath requirements- you really have to get to know the instrument. Never the less, I was able to hear it from across the room and was suitably impressed. I decided it was worth struggling with to get the potential out of it and hoped the buyer would back out. He contacted me the next day and said he changed his mind in favor of a narrow bore. I was greatly relieved. So, I’m keeping it. (It just means I can’t justify getting a narrow bore- in just tuning. ) I’ll post something with it soon.
