Does anyone have info on the Reyburn or T&G
Low D whistles with regard to ease of playing
and tone?

Looks like no one is jumping in to help you here so I’ll add my experience:

I tried Reyburn Low D whistles with both of the body styles in-line finger holes, and off-set finger holes. I found the distance between the holes to be much too far, not a problem I usually have with Low D’s.

As far as how the whistles played, they were fine for slower tunes, and had an interesting and unique tone, however I didn’t find the Reyburn Low D particularly well suited for playing up-tempo stuff - the response seemed sluggish at speed and working the the tone holes on fast tunes was a real chore for me.

I’ve never played a T&G. I’ve spoken to several people who have, and I’ve gotten mixed reviews from them, so I can’t be much help there.

Thanks - your experience really is a big help. I’ve read good things about the Reyburn but I don’t want to spend that much money without hearing from people who’ve actually played one.

I got a Reyburn Low-D several days ago.

I got the off-set hole pattern and have no trouble with it. It was a little bizarre at first but after 20 minutes or so became second nature. I much prefer it to the pipers grip (with which I have no trouble). The sound of the Low-D is really remarkable…rich and resonant with really unique ocvertones. There is a clip of Tony playing one on clips and snips.

Ronaldo also makes a narrow-bore Low-D for jigs and reels. I haven’t tried that one and would be interested to hear from any that had.
