Mind you I forgot to mention that the whistle is tuneable and will be engraved 001 as it’s the first wooden topped whistle that I’ve let out of the workshop.
If I do say so myself, its a doozey!!
Tommy
P.S. in case anyone queries the 001 status of this whistle thats for sale, I do have a prototype that I do keep in my pipes case and I play from time to time but it’s an experiment and will never be for sale or even given away. It’s engraved XX which means a dud in my books. It’s in tune and sounds fine. Well, for the amount of whistle that I play it’s fine but not good enough to reach the standard that I’ve set with this whistles thats for sale now.
I got to hear Tom play his prototype wood top a couple of months ago, and I liked it very much.
As I recall, it was not particularly loud, but had a very nice tone. It is narrow bore, isn’t it Tom? It is also very distinctive and handsome looking.
Yes its a D whistle and it’s tuneable. I just updated the ebay posting with this info.
The bore is that same 1/2inch tube that generation and oak use which, I find, helps the second to be a bit better in tune without blowing the crap out of it. This one is quite louder than the one you saw/heard in St Louis Annie, I’ve opened up the windway on this one.
BTW, if someone wants to outbid me - do it. You’ll have to bid $92, I won’t fight anymore.
If no one will… Well, that’s a good whistle, I suppose, but I still should learn to think before bidding
One learns much about bidding with enough practice… you’re just beginning… I am, for what it’s worth, an old hand. I confess that I bought several things early on that I really wish I’d known better than to bid on the way I did.
At any rate, I think you will be happy with Tommy’s whistle, and it’s still below his list price.
