wooden whistle flute on ebay

Another interesting item on ebay. Check this out. It looks like a baroque flute with an additional whistle head.

Saw it, but is it worth anything?

Steven

Is it worth anything?

I have no idea but I am the highest bidder for it at the moment.

I have spoken to the seller and it looks like the whistle head is not original but it does not matter to me, I like the idea of it. The block has obviously shrunk and is loose and falls inside the tube, easily repaired.

I was secretly hoping it would not show up here as I may have a lot more competition now :astonished:

Hey, Colin:

While you’re on E-Bay, maybe I can interest you in bidding on a genuine Goldie Overton Low D? Comes with the great padded case, and is even signed by, er, you. Starting bid only $135!

(By the way, love the whistle, just never really play it anymore because I’m spending all my time on flute. I’m keeping my Goldie Overton Low F, though, because it’s my favorite whistle!)

Well, well, well, I was tempted, Colin, but as it’s you, I’m out. So it’s good luck to “Colin, der Jäger und Sammler”!
See you on Saturday.

Claus

Hello, Colin,

This sure is a pretty instrument! I did not see anything in the listing stating the length of the flute/whistle, did he tell you what it was? I was wondering how high or low it might play. Bb is the same key my fifes are in.

If you win it, will you give us an after action report?

I had enough with twisting Brigitte’s arm so I can bid on this flute. If you could see our place you could understand why she would not tolerate yet another Low D, although if it is something I do not already have then that is different. At this point in time my personal low D’s are: about 10+ Overtons (each different models) a Blackwood Swayne, a Copeland (brass), Burke pro, O’Riordon black aluminium, Ralf Cook, OLD Howard and 2 original Goldie whistles before I met Bernard. This is only Low D’s!
You should have no problems selling it, my waiting list is still around 30 weeks and if anyone wants to step back from the waiting list to get this whistle it is fine with me,just let me know when you have won it.

Thanks Claus, I would not like to get in a bidding war with you… See you tonight and if you have any new toys we have not seen, bring them along, hope Toms neighbours don’t mind  Our street is getting ready for the yearly party tonight “Heidefest” outside our front gate so whenever we get back it’s guaranteed they will still be partying and will take us forever to get in our house. Only when we’ve drunk a beer with ALL of our neighbours which normally means a good few glasses and a couple of hours later. They certainly know how to party around here… it will be daylight when they finish especially with the weather forecast being soo good. They will carry on tomorrow until all the beer is drunk under the pretence of cleaning up.

No Problem, if I get it. This should be the same length and tone as the fifes you have, give or take a couple of cm in the length. I will carry on bidding but not today.
Back into the workshop as whistles need polishing…
Colin

Congrats, Colin!

Now–wow! 182 quid for a Bb fife (or whistle-to-be), even with its odd Ab key, it better be good.
I was getting ready to snipe at it, then read your last post telling you were still after it and… decided I could as well play those pipe tunes on an Eb or F whistle.

Tell us about it when you can play it (esp. after fixin the whistle block).
