Its been a busy last 4 weeks catching up from a tumultuous April. Here are some 39 Folk Flutes going out into the world tomorrow, finished this morning. These are all my March and April orders.
This is too many flutes. I raised my prices for the first time in 7 years to perhaps slow the market down (it has - but I am still getting orders. Just not one every day!), and so that I wouldn’t run through my wood pile quite so fast. Making this many flutes is hard on the hands and forearms and I am needing to slow down just a bit. On the other hand, making this many flutes gives me lots of practice tuning and voicing. Am glad to be done with that though with this batch. This is one of the largest batches of flutes I’ve produced. I will have shipped out 100 of these into the world since the beginning of the year, when these get sent off tomorrow. Ugh!
The next 3-4 weeks I’ll be working on a pair of keyed boxwood flutes, a number of keyless flutes, and some bagpipes (Scottish Smallpipes for my wife’s birthday present) if I have the time. Then another (much smaller) batch of these in June. I’m hoping to take some time off in July to work on some other things (such as playing some music!) and then Lark Camp rolls around the first of August.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Casey
