CP: A busy year thus so far.....

Here are flutes I have made and sent out into the world since January 1st. Some 25 flutes are missing from this photo, including two key retrofits currently in progress, a low combo in boxwood, another in blackwood and a few other things. I have 3-4 more days of work and then I will be taking the rest of July and most of August off from flute production. Time to give my sore muscles and tendons a rest. In 3 weeks I leave for Lark Camp and the great music scene there. Also, we’ll see our daughter Lila there - she has been living in Philadelphia and we haven’t seen her since Christmas. Can’t wait to be all done.

I might do a bit of prototyping over the break. Also make a set of Scottish Smallpipes. I also have some major shop cleanup and construction to attend to. But the biggest priority will be enjoying this summer!

What is the thing Grey is playing???

One of my back burner projects. I’d like to develop a bass flute in D that could be used in sessions and performances. This was a hacked out experimental prototype made from plumbing tubing and a boxwood riser for the chimney. I was trying to see if the really high riser approach used in modern bass flutes would work with something like this. Unfortunately, no. Or at least on this first attempt. The demands of my queue have kept such prototyping projects at bay. Am hoping I have a bit more time on my hands in the 2nd half of the year for research and development.

Casey - is that a fairly normal sample…quite a few keyless and just a few keyed? Just curious…now that I have keys, I never want to go back. Because of the cost, changing flutes frequently is not an option anymore!
