My band (Drunk and Disorderly) has a regular show every Tuesday at a local bar. Imagine our delight when we walked in yesterday and saw posters advertising that Gaelic Storm (made famous by the movie Titanic) would be playing a special show next month. Now imagine our profound confusion and amazement when we read that Drunk and Disorderly was going to be the opening act. I was floored. I quickly double checked this with the owner and it’s true.
In St. Paul, Minnesota on Tuesday August 19; Drunk and Disorderly and Gaelic Storm are playing a five hour mini-festival hosted by The Dubliner Pub. Hopefully any of you who live in the area will be able to come down and check it out. I’m still a little bit in shock from it since we just found out ourselves last night so I may have left things out. If there’s any questions about the show please send me a private message.
They stop by our sessions when they’re in town for concerts. Fun enough guys (I’ve chatted mostly with Stephen Wehmeyer). I really like their fiddler, funny guy who picks stuff up quick enough to hide the fact that he doesn’t play Irish trad. And … [insert snide remark about quality of the music]
Quite apart from all artistic merit, I’d be psyched to, just to get to play with/before an act with name recognition like that… very cool.
Well, Im glad you found out before the evening of the concert… reminds me of one of my own experiences:
When I’m not whistling, Im the drummer for a little pop band, we were contacting by a local pastor to come and play a little 4 song set for a youth rally (in two days) so the night of the gig, Im the first one there and I walk in and see another band setting up there gear by the stage… I double checked with the pastor and found out that we were opening for these guys , the ones with actual careers. I shiver to think of that night, we screwed up so badly it wasnt even funny. Anyway, interesting experience.
And I thought I had hit it big when the “garage band” I played keyboards in was the opening act for “The human percolator”, Billy Harner at The gilded Cage in Philly back in 1968! (Only baby-boomers from the Philly area will know whom I’m referring to).
Congrats a-plenty to you!
