Over this weekend I was on cloud 9. We had our annual “Highland Festival” which focuses on a mixture of Scottish-Irish heritage. The Festival Organizers had brought in two bands to play and of course you had four to five bagpipe bands playing and marching. In between sets I struck up a conversation with one of the bands which I believe was from IL. I believe the name was EXORIA. If you get a chance you should here play. Anyway I started playing my Low F with two of the band members and shortly there after a crowd starting building. Playing for family and friends is one thing, but to get such a response from strangers was overwhelming. They asked me to work on some more reels and jigs and join them next year during the sessions. I will have to say that we played the most moving rendition of “Foggy Dew” that I have ever heard and best of all…I was part of it.

How was the festival? Any vendors selling whistles? I wanted to grab my wife and run up on Sat. After my son’s soccer game we were too tired from screaming!

SIRNICK: The festival was good and tends to grow every year. You know I didn’t see any venders selling whistles. 
MarkB: I will have to say that it was exciting to play in front of the crowd, but I don’t think the Chieftains of Lunsas will be knocking at my door anytime soon… 
Did you happen to see Gael Warning? I saw them not to long ago and was disappointed because the piper was using an electronic bagpipe chanter! It just didn’t seem right! How are you supposed to breath life into a tune if you don’t add your breath!!! 
Well Fiddlers, Uillean Pipers, Box Players, and players of many different non wind instruments seem to do it some how.
Like I was saying…how are you supposed to breath life into the music without the breath! 
Alright some of them don’t you know like Box players. Sorry had to make fun of the Boxes I like Boxes though I don’t see why they have such a bad rep. I have no problem with electric Pipes in fact I’m getting some soon. That was a good joke though.
