It has been some time since I shared my work-in-progress on the board here. I’ve since completed the keywork and can play the flute fully chromatically with some awkwardness using baroque one-key fingerings. In case you haven’t seen the first post, the keys are quite simple, serving mainly to simply extend the reach of the hand:
(The whistle I normally play one-handed is just visible in the background.)
This will likely be the last I share of this instrument, as it’s all but finished. Thank you to everyone on C&F for sharing your knowledge so openly! I never would have started this project without it.
And if you found this project at all inspiring, please feel free to develop on these ideas; I found the existing solutions lacking (especially the C#-D fingering of other one-handed instruments), and there can never be too many accessible options for musicians in the world.
Now all that’s left is to learn to play the dang thing. Slán go fóill!
