I’ve heard around (at two different music shops lately) that Clarke is working on making a Low D in the Sweetone style, to do something in the (obviously) affordable range. Anyone heard anything about that, or has the Vancouver whistle-blowing populace been getting something weird in its drinking water?
I seem to remember that Clarke denies working on a low D. I think there was a previous thread where someone had contacted Clarke and gotten the answer from them. The rumor of a Clarke low D has been around for at least a couple years.
My impression is that they started the development of it; rumours got out, but for some reason it turned into a very Long Term project, and they want to get rid of the rumours.
If it’s the Original Clarke that they are using for the low D design, please don’t let them put on the GOLD DIAMONDS
I like diamonds
but not on my whistle
makes it look like
a magic wand or circus flute.
The Black is great. If they indeed make the Low D they should consider Dale’s suggestion about leaving off the gold, and also adopt the name ‘Dale’s Naked Black Splendour’…

I posted a reply to a similar thread a few months ago.
At that tiime, I asked Maria Weedon, one of the managing directors of Clarke (whom I deal with) this question directly. She flatly denied that there are any plans for a Low D. She also wondered how the rumour started, and I replied, telling her that her that Clarke’s technical expert (who’s name escapes me while I write this) had clearly indicated that the development was under way, on other message boards. She didn’t respond. So, it’s wait and see on the Low D, but my money is on it NOT happening.

The technical expert was Norman Dannatt.
The entire Clarke Low D rumour appears to have started with information that was inadvertently leaked by folks at Clarke on their own message board. It happens easily enough when people are excited about new prototypes their company is developing - in a moment of excitement somebody writes something they shouldn’t on a message board or blurts something out in a phone conversation - and then the whole world finds out. However, in Clarke’s case it wasn’t a single information leak rather it was a series of them on their message board.
What people need to realize is that a company might make a prototype of a great product or have a great idea for a new product. But then say the market changes or the company’s focus changes or whatever so the product is killed - there are a hundred reasons to halt product development. But, halting the rumour mill is much more difficult
I love my Clarke Sweetone because its so darn easy to play and I’d love to see an inexpensive low D from Clarke that is likewise easy to play. But I’m not holding my breath on anything new from Clarke until they make a formal announcement.

I believe ‘Dale’s Naked Black Splendour’ originally referred to a soprano D. So, if Clarke made an all-black Low D it would more to be correctly referred to as ‘Dale’s Big Naked Black Splendour’ …
