Has there ever been (or will ever be) A Chiff & Fipple Chatroom on Yahoo? Personally i think it would be a good idea. But these are just my thought’s. What does everyone else here think about it?
Yes there is, although everytime I visit the chat I’m the only one. The address to to the chat is: http://chiffboard.mati.ca/chat
Sorry… I didn’t read your post well. There’s not yeahoo chatroom, but an intern chatroom. Maybe this is what you were looking for?
There’s a link to the chat at the top of this page. It is very populated in the evening, USA time.

As one of those who occasionally populates the chat room in the evenings, I’d like to say that it’s very much alive. You should definitely stop by, but be prepared for lots of topics (occasionally whistles and usually NOT politics or religion) and for the sight of Alan wearing a hula skirt and lampshade and dancing with Moonlight while Lark plays “I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts” on a square whistle. It’s a fun place!

Yahoo Chat is often used for temporary C&F chat, when the regular C&F chat server is down.
There are normally chatters from around 8PM to 2AM Central (US/Canada time), though it could be as early as 5:00 or as late as dawn. From time to time there are people on in the morning, Central Time, as well, but this is mostly very sporadic.
Take Susnfx’s statement with a grain of salt. The chat has veered onto political and religious topics many, many, times.
Oh, well, if you’re going to get picky
… I guess it has gotten a little heated in there a time or two when those subjects have raised their ugly heads …
For the most part, however, it’s friendly and fun.
Having never used a Yahoo chatroom, I don’t know if it would have advantages or not over the current one. With the current one, there are serious interface issues for some of us. A few months ago, the online version facilitated by the Chiffy site, stopped working for me. I have been using a cheezy program called IRC Shadow, that is not nearly as nice as the built-in version. I tried several others, and few work on my Mac. I spent way too much time trying to resolve this issue with little satisfaction.
If Yahoo works better for most people on their computers, I would vote to move the whole thing over to it. Yes there are lots of chatters in the evening, US time.
You can also set up chats with the several different stand alone messaging platforms. I mostly use AIM, but Yahoo has one and there are several others. These rarely go down. I believe Lark has a regular room set up in Yahoo Messager for when the built in chat goes down.
It looks like I get a chance to play computer geek here for a minute. To access the chiffandfipple chatroom you can; 1) use the link here http://chiffboard.mati.ca/chat/ at c&f to use the browser enabled chat program, or 2) using an Internet Relay Chat program you can access the server at blizzard.pobox.com. What is a chat client? There are many for just about every computer platform. For windows p.c. there is the ubiquitous mIRC, also xchat, pirch, klient, and birsIRC. For MacOS you can use ircle, or snax. For Linux, never mind..linux users know what they are doing ( : ) ). Also some IM clients are enabled to use the IRC protocol and the Mozilla browser also comes with a bundled irc client called Chatzilla. so in that client type in : /server blizzard.pobox.com . After you are connected type /join #chiffy and there you will be!
I thought usually it get’s heated in there when I raise my ugly head, wouldn’t you say, Susan-dear? [nudge nudge wink wink]
It’s just unfortuneate you guys are so centered on the one time zone. I have honestly seen hardly anyone use chat during my waking hours. When I came home from playing tunes last Sunday at two in the morning there were two people using chat and that was the max I have ever seen. And really by that time I wanted to go to bed, not stray into a chatroom.
Yeah, many folks in US evening hours. We get Claudine eating her breakfast, somewhere in Benelux i think, Eldarion at his day job in Singapore. Marty Milner has stopped in once or twice but it must have been a wee hour…
Jessie did a daytime chat recently that would have been about the right time but its hell on productivity for 'Mericans.
I don’t think we’re centered on one time zone, it’s just that most of us log on in the evenings before going to bed, as evidenced by the quality of the conversations! ![]()
