***CHIFF & FIPPLE COMPILATION***attn ALL!!!!

Heya,

Hey everyone!! This just came to me as I was doing a bit of recording into my computer. Why doesn’t the C&F board community put together a little compilation of tunes together, and produce a few CD’s? This may sound like shooting for the moon, but why not? We don’t have to get it published with a record label or anything. All those who would like to participate could just send their tunes (hardcopy, not .ra files) to Dale, or whomever might feel up to the task, and he/she could pick certain tunes, compile them, and burn them. Not too hard, and I think it’d give a lot of us a chance to hear each others’ best works. I know there’s already the tunes forum here, but personally I’d prefer a few high quality media tunes, possibly mixed with other backup instruments… Whad’ya say peoples???

That would be great! I won’t be submitting, but I certainly would like to own a copy. I do think that whoever volunteers for the production will have to have some free time available.
If it happens, I hope that the work is put on a server somewhere so that it can be downloaded as opposed to getting an actual CD. Those with broadband could get it immediately.
Also, releases should always be obtained. Take it from someone who knows. Little projects sometimes end up as great commercial products. Oh yeah, don’t forget about that copyright stuff too.
Now that more logistical concerns have been added I leave it to the genuises (Those under influence of the Crystal People) to work it out.

Heya,

Logistics nothing!! I would hope that our little group wouldn’t have to worry about copyright infringement or anything. After all, unless the tunes are your creation, I don’t think you can own a string of common pub tunes. I’d be willing to do the compiling. Who’s up to contribute?

I can’t promise that I can bring this off, and I’m kind of doing this as a joke, but I’m thinking of trying to record my own version of “Sleepwalk” playing guitar, bass, and my trusty Generation B-flat, a.k.a. “The Monster”! If this proves to be too difficult, I may try the Ventures’ “Walk Don’t Run”.

Celtic Surf, my friends!

Just as an example of what can be accomplished, check out Gary Humphrey’s and Mick Woodruff’s composition of Hector the Hero at Clips & Snips. (I was supposed to contribute to the track, but it was complete sounding when I heard it, so I bowed out.)

We all have varying limitations on sound production capacity and sending large wave files around is a real chore, but it’s doable. Most of us may not be able to put out anything close to cd quality sound with our little microphones and kitchen studios, but there’s a lot of heart out there and you can hear it on these files.

(Ever the realist, me.) Keep in mind that determining whether or not a tune is in the public domain can be an expensive and difficult exercise.
