Hi,
Black tie event at the Disney center in Los Angeles, a limo is a must… ![]()
Just got my tickets, (nose bleed section) anyone else in area going? Aanvil? Tod? Eilam? John? Sbfluter? Did I miss any?
I hope Matt Malloy plays “The mason’s apron” ![]()
Too, bad I won’t be around…it would be a fun event to see everyone. Have fun…
You can always fly over for the event!
How is life in stuffy academia?
shizzle!
Seems to be sold out… less I want to pay 250 a head.
hey,
That is just a scam, go to Tickemasters and they have tickets that are a little more reasonable, but the seats are very pricey! I am up in the right side, Terrace west, $45 a head!

Hey Jon C, please post your thoughts after you see the Chieftains concert tonight. I’ll be seeing them Saturday evening in Modesto. ![]()
I did get tix… not at 250 either.
I’ll be there tonight and I hope Matt doesn’t cause an earthquake if he does pull out that Mason’s Apron.
Disney Hall is on a major fault line you know.

I’m hoping that his legendary blasts will blow the valley Tule fog away, or my trip from Sacramento and back could be one of those where you follow the tail lights in front of you and pray for the best… ![]()
Can’t wait to hear about the concert. My wife and I are seeing them at Carnegie Hall on St. Pat’s!
Glad to see you decided to go for it, Sean. The Chieftains in Carnegie Hall on St. Pat’s with a NY audience…how much better could it get?!!
OMFG!
Matt and Sean were not there!
Paddy did well to keep it all together but I was really disappointed.

Matt and Sean were not there!
Jeepers,
Who was left?
Tommy
Well that’s a huge BUMMER!! There is a big storm moving into Northern California Saturday afternoon with wind gusts predicted in excess of 80 mph.
After hearing this, I’m not sure I’m going to make the hour and a half drive to Modesto to see them. Dang, dang, dang ![]()
dn
Really, Aanvil, who was left? That left Paddy and Kevin, didn’t it? Who else was sitting in and playing what instruments?
I fully agree. Home is where he needs to be.
He was missed sorely though.
The show was a good one though but much more dancing and singing that I expected. It was great fun to see.
I’m not sure how much they needed to move round the numbers without Matt and Sean. It really missed some “wow” factor on the instrumental side.
I’m sure its not surprise to anyone that it was Mr. Molloy that I looking forward to seeing.
If I had known that he and Sean were not playing I most likey would not have gone.
Sean Keane is doing a series of concerts with Liam O Flynn at the various spring festivals in Ireland at the moment.
It was unfortunate that the whole group couldn’t be there, I feel for Mattt Malloy, and agree thta it is more important the at he stay home, but is Sean still in the group? The Chieftains failed to mention this on there website, I think that is a little misleading, especially for those shelling out up to $85 a seat. They might bill rather as two members of the Chieftains.
It was kind of a variety show, I was thinking that it was geared as “Irish music for those that don’t like Irish music”… Kind of like small sound bites of each song or tune. Still there was a lot of good performers that showed up to play and sing, just a little disappointing, considering that who knows how much more they will be touring.

I saw the Chieftains last year in Charlottesville, and I had a similar impression to Jon’s. Matt was there, and the Chieftains played like you’d expect them to, but the show also featured somewhere around twenty or twenty-five other musicians and dancers. All of them were talented and worth seeing, but the sound-bite thing was the order of the day. The show skipped from one thing to the next - Jury’s Irish Cabaret at $100 a seat (or Confuse-A-Cat, Ltd.). I’m glad I saw them back in the day, before they stopped trusting their audience to focus on what they’re doing. Cheers,
Rob
