I thought Chantico was a kind of Latin dance music or something. I’d never heard of it. I bet there is a Starbucks here in Berea, I should go there and buy coffee to see why everybody likes it so much.
Uh oh . . . the Starbucks at work opened today. I noticed some names on the menu that I didn’t recognize right off . . . and I think Chantico was one of them.
I haven’t tried the Chantico, though it does sound good. But, the nutrition information has kinda scared me off (that’s a whole lot of fat and calories for 6 oz).
Look at those ingredients! Far from being off-putting, they are a testimony to DJM’s claims!
In one 6-oz serving (a tea cup, for y’all metric folk), we see 11 g of protein, 6 g of fiber, 25 and 30% of your daily calcium and iron requirements, plus all those delicious antioxidants and mood-smoothing goodies.
This is TWICE the protein of a cup of plain yogurt, which has 0 g fiber and 0% of your iron requirement. It would take 2 cups of plain yogurt to give you the same protein, and then you would have roughly similar calories, but somewhat less fat. And none of the mood treats.
As for the fat . . . well, if you’re aiming for 30 g a day, then you still have 9 more to go. Enjoy your healthful chocolate drink and graze on green leafies the rest of the day.
Please note that I edited my post above. Shockingly, I related the protein content of a cup of the chocolate as half that in a carton of yogurt. That is incorrect.
A cup of Starbuck’s chocolate has TWICE the protein of a cup of yogurt.
Mmmmmmmm! I feel myself relaxing just thinking about it!
Chantico is not meant as a ‘beverage’ per se, but rather as a dessert. I don’t ask wine to be fruit juice; I don’t ask a sirloin steak to be a salad. I’m not going to ask this incredible liquid chocolate to be a diet cola either.
Let’s face it. The only food stuffs that really taste good contain an abundance of fat, sugar, or both. And preferably some chocolate too. My favorite Flamenco singer is named Chocolate. I think it’s because his skin is the color of milk chocolate. And he’s low-fat!
