Can you tell me what tune starts with these notes...

I’m too lazy to post a clip, could you please tell me what is the name of the two-parts jigs that starts with:

d c# d A2 G F#2 D D3
E D E C2 G E2 D D3

I play it, taught someone, and would like to give the person the name

Beats me…

Ye might try being a little less lazy and either post a clip of the full tune or give more notes!

Pipe on the hob #1.

I dunno about the “#1”, but yeah, that’s the Pipe on the Hob which is on A Tribute to Michael Coleman and A Tribute to Andy McGann.

Yep, one of the Pipes, left conveniently on the Hob. Not sure which is #1 or 2. I learned the other one (the 3 parter, which starts A b c2(nat), e d c , e d c) first, so I would have put the order the other way 'round…

Henrik Norbeck’s tune index has tunes listed by the first two bars:
http://www.norbeck.nu/abc/index2.asp?sort=incipit&cat=i
though his settings might be a little different than some of those you know.

I don’t know it…just wanted to say hi, Az!

Susan

Hi Susan! Been a while, nice to see you’re still around

And thanks guys for the answer… Pipe on the Hob! There ya go!

Is pretty much how I play it:

X: 1
T: Pipe On The Hob, The
M: 6/8
L: 1/8
R: jig
K: Ador

Unless I’m mistaken, that would be the other Pipe on the Hob, not the one I’m talking about, yours is the one in AMinor is it?

Well that would explain why I didn’t recognise your tune as The Pipe on the Hob, didn’t know there were more than one!

It’s in A dorian. If you’ll notice on my abc transcription you’ll see:

K: (which stands for key)

followed by: A dor (dorian)

I’ve read that Seamus Ennis claimed that the proper name for the one I posted is actually Piper of the Embers. I’ll have to look up the other Pipe on the Hob!

You want the Pipe on the Hob in ‘D’. There’s a fairly standard version of it on the Mona’s CD (and a thousand other places I imagine!).
