Tune identification

Can anyone help me with the names of these two tunes (first parts of each given) …

Please excuse my sorry attempt at ABC - I’ve never used it before so am not quite sure about the transcription. I have used a colon to indicate a roll …

A:AFADAFA:Bdefded
CG:GEG:GCedCAGEG

and

a2gfAdgfAdgfAdeC
eagfAdfgfedCABCd

Many thanks!
Jim

The first one is The Holly Bush
Can’t quite figure out the second one.

the Fairy Reel maybe?

The first one is The Holly Bush. More or less:

~A2 FA DBAG | FAde fded | cG ~G2 AGDg |cedc AGFG | A2 FA DBAG | FAde fded | cG ~G2 cedB |cAGE D3 B :||: Addc# defg | adde dcAB |3c B cdeg | aged cAGB | Addc# defg | adde dcAB |3c B cded | cAGE D3 B:||

Can’t quite figure out the second one.

Thanks for that - it seems that was indeed The Holly Bush I was attempting to play! It goes to confirm that there are as many versions of tunes as there are pipers - I checked the title on thesession.org and their version runs
A2FA DAFG|ABde fded|cGG2 EGG2|cedc AGFG|
A2FA DAFG|ABde fded|cGG2 cedc|AcGE D2FG:|
|:Add^c defg|adde dcAc|GccB cdeg|aged cAGc|
Add^c defg |adde dcAB|cGG2 cedc|AcGE D2FG:|
Slightly different to yours but similar to the version I learnt … any remaining differences are down to my faulty lugs …

I don’t think the other one is the Fairy Reel though, if thesession can be believed … it starts on 2nd octave A (very staccato opening) and feels more like a hornpipe than a reel

Are you sure now (don’t pay too much attention to the session.org in these matters):

ag¦fAdg fAdg|fAdf ceag|fAdf gfed|cABc d ----etc

I think Peter’s on the money.

You can listen to Neillidh Mulligan’s take on it (channelling Tommy Reck) here: http://cdbaby.com/cd/neilmulligan3
The second time through the A part is what you’re looking for.
Wasted as a fast reel.

Peter - the only thing I am sure of is that I am not sure at all! Your transcription is a match for what I have been playing, so I will go with the Fairy Reel and be d***ed to thesession.org . I don’t know that many tunes yet, so it was bugging me to have them filed as ‘another tune’ or ‘gan ainm #7 (bippedy bippedy)’!

Thanks once again to all!

Thanks for the Neillidh Mulligan link also - that’s the tune alright. I agree, I much prefer it played at slightly less than turbo speed, but as a nearly 50 y/o newbie with recalcitrant fingers, I am strongly in favour of slow(er) piping to go with ‘slow food’ and all the rest of that fashionable malarkey

back to practice now … the working day is done, hurrah!

I’ll second that.
