Can anybody recomend flute method book?

Hello everyone,
I am lending a friend one of my flutes to take with her to kazakhstan(!) for a prolonged period. She wants to learn to play the flute ,as the piano won’t fit in her luggage. I’m a bit out of touch with the current method books, not having actually taught flute for 20 years. Any opinions as to which is the best book for self study in this day and age? B.T.W. It is a boehm flute, and she isn’t into irish music.
thanks
Michael

My flute teacher likes the Rubank books. Is your friend going to have a teacher or will she be entirely self-taught. The Rubank books have no explanatory text, just exercises and music.

The Trevor Wye books have more to say. There are teachers who like this series. He has a series of method books, plus his (more advanced) books on special topics, Tone, Intonation, Articulation, etc.

If she’s going to be entirely self-taught, I would look for something that has the most descriptive text along with music to play. Something with lots of embouchure pictures would be a good thing.

Thanks for replying mrosenlof
She will be on her own, so your idea about pictures etc. is good. If she has time, I’ll go through a few basics with her to get her started.
