I was wondering if anyone would suggest a lesson book series for flute. The student is about an intermediate level, and needs more. She doesn’t have a lesson series. Someone suggested the Rubank method but we’d like to look at a few.
Also if anyone knows of any recital books for flute or etudes, please let me know. Thanks a lot.
You may actually not be at the best site for these recommendations - most of the players here focus on Irish dance music using “simple system” flutes. Therefore, formal lesson books are few and far between, and ear learning is encouraged over reliance on notation. Perhaps some of the crossover classical folks could step up on this one?
somebody please give me some suggestions. Are there any teachers on the site who could tell me what method series they use to teach from? Any students who could? Any players who have been playing for 15+ years that know a good bit of music?
Rubank is pretty much the industry standard. You can’t go wrong.
Trevor Wye has written a superb series of books for beginning to advanced students of the modern flute.

Thanks. Yeah I really need to get things off line. Our local music store is pretty lame. Well it’s great if you play guitar or drums… For classical musicians however… If anyone might be able to suggest some good sites for buying music and supplies online I’d appreciate that.
As Mary mentioned, www.fluteworld.com has a very large inventory of most anything related to classical flute. They’ve got all of Tevor Wye’s stuff. I’d recommend ordering their catalog–I find the website a little overwhelming.
Yeah, FluteWorld is your best bet, next to ordering it from a local music store (they could order just about anything, but the wait would probably be more than it would if you just ordered from FluteWorld). If you call or email them they may even have other suggestions than the one’s you’ve received here.
You might also look into just getting some things to supplement what the student is already working on. Etude books such as those by Anderson (try opus 33) or books such as Donald Peck’s Flute Solos book (that isn’t the exact title, but he’s the editor) & also Handel Sonatas would be good supplemental material other than just a method book, with a small range of easier to more difficult that you don’t necesarily have to tackle in any particular order. These things break lessons & practice sessions up a little for the student as well, giving them other ventures to go after in their playing. If you are familiar with Irish music, you might even teach them tunes by ear in their lessons or have them learn some other folk-type music. Younger students especially love this! 
Where are you located? It’s possible that there may even be some places not more than a few hours drive from you with more flute music available than what is local to you.
Any of the studies compiled by Voxman & published by Rubank should be available. Don’t neglect the duets as that’s an excellent way to learn sight-reading. Also Moyse exercises… Try www.sheetmusicplus.com.
