The same guy is selling the Lambe chanter. Again no reed.
I was very surprised to see this because I know Brian well enough to know he wouldn’t make a chanter drilled for a key and not fit it! So I rang him and this is definitely NOT one of his. All Brians work is stamped HOWARD. Those of us familiar with his engineering skill would see that the turning on the cap is different and the shape of the blocks bears no resemblance to the work he did when he used blocks. The seller has been informed, but it is important that anyone bidding is not misled into thinking this is his work, it most definitely is not.
There was a guy from Australia, who shall remain nameless, but I think many here know who I’m referring to, who used to knock up shoddy pipes and then flog them off as 2nd hand Adrian Jefferies or Ian McKenzie pipes. I wonder if this guy has caught the same bug?

So I suspect the other chanter they are selling is a Scam too… 
Not necessarily, it does look exactly right for a 1982 Lambe chanter. I had a 1980 one which was the spitting image of it. And you can’t fake the discolouring of the chanter top so well

Nobody said the key wasn’t there originally, it just isn’t there now.
It looks convincing enough for a 1990 chanter, i have certainly seen chanters much like it.
VERIFYING THE SELLER AND POSSIBLY SPEAKING WITH THE SELLER WOULD BE PRUDENT.
It always is ofcourse.
A seller has to start somewhere though - can’t get feebdack points without making sales.
You can if you buy a few things first. I’m always suspicious of sellers with zero feedback. It’s all too easy for a seller with negative feedback to start selling through a different account.
Peter why are you trying to authenticate the chanter, when Howard himself says he never made any like this?
I guess it may not be the first time in history that a person owned a chanter and didn’t correctly know who made it.
You’ve asserted that its not a Howard. Fine.
The next logical question is “Who did make it?”

The guy selling may not actually know, or may have been misinformed by whoever HE got it from,
or of course he might be a chancer…who knows…and not worth arguing about unless planning to invest in a bid I’d say

I am not trying to authenticate it. I am saying it is probably a 1990s chanter as I have seen similar ones at the time. The lambe chanter looks like it is one. The man probably doesn’t know what it is and was told it is a Howard. I honestly don’t know but you all run out shouting FRAUD! SCAM! Contact your man and ask what the story is before you hang him out to dry.

I contacted the guy via eBay and asked him to add something of the ownership history to the listing. I also asked him to post a pic showing the “Howard” stamp. It will be interesting to see if he responds. I’ll post an update should I get any.

Fair enough Peter, a misunderstanding there.
As far as honest mistakes go, the seller was emailed by Howard Music yesterday, and informed it was not a Howard chanter. However the ebay listing has yet to be altered as far as I can see
Seller has amended the description of the chanter - Maker unknown.
On 27-Jul-05 at 15:09:50 BST, seller added the following information:
As it seems this is NOT a Brian Howard chanter I am ammending description to unkown English maker .
I think its a lambe C chanter but I could be wrong…
I had a D chanter just like it…the mounts look like Lambe..
Just a suggestion but since the seller no longer claims it to be a Howard chanter would it be appropriate to take FRAUD out of the title to this thread?
