Sorry we missed it. In retrospect, there was no way we would have been able to make it anyway.
The gig went well, I’m happy to report, although it was pretty exhausting. Just the two of us (flute & fiddle) playing for 3 hours of dancing after an hour of “listening” music beforehand, which included a couple of songs on which I played guitar. Exhausting but satisfying.
Yes indeedy, it was fun to finally meet everybody. Thanks, Dana (and your lovely wife) for hosting. Though I still haven’t quite forgiving you for not really wearing a viking helmet.
But to be fair, Weeks was disappointed that I didn’t show up in buckskins carrying a bowie knife or something like that. That’s the problem with these get-togethers–so many illusions shattered.
Thanks for a great party. Next time you’re all in Wyoming, plan on coming out to the Wilson Mansion for burgers.
Smaller group this time than we’d hoped since William and Aldon couldn’t make it, but enough for a good time. Music was mostly a “do you know this one” thing, but we found a few in common (and all came in on the chorus with Lance’s singing). Audrey gave us the promised Irish carol a cappela - a beautiful song. And I think we all drooled over Tom’s Hoover G a bit - a lovely sound, and well played by it’s owner.
Sorry to disappoint by not wearing the horned viking helmet - I only wear that when preparing to rape, plunder, and pillage and I was taking the day off.
And though Tom didn’t have any facial stripes, he had a few good badger stories to share.
Well, I went away wishing more people had a chance to meet the Badge. A cool duuuuude…
Thanks Dana. To all the Chiffsters out there, hear me: meeting people through C&F is a very cool thing. We’re a lovable bunch to party with.
Oh, and Tom: Bear Grylls was eating a live frog last night on the teevee; surviving the Sahara! Maybe, just maybe, he’ll try and survive the Tetons. Nyuk.
Yeah, maybe next time I’ll tell you guys about the time I got lost in the Tetons and had to eat a live grizzly bear. Goes down pretty smooth once you get past the fur and claws. Frogs. Pshaw.
I should also mention that yes, Audrey’s harp playing was absolutely lovely. I did feel a bit uncomfortable carrying her purse, but when in Rome and all that…
Justine and company, I wish you could have stuck around longer. It was nice to meet you. That is one happy little guy you’ve got, even though it was past his bedtime.
Weeks is a grand historian and a darn fine whistle blower and banjo whanger who actually uses the word “dude” very sparingly.
And Dana, don’t worry. I got even by giving your daughter her first bodhran lesson when you weren’t looking.
