Its nice to see a moderator explain how a topic disappeared and apologise.

I myself found one of my truly harmless pub topics disappearing around Christmas 2006 and still await some words of solace.

Harmlessness is in the eye of the beholder, I’m afraid.
You asserted:

A noble sentiment,
however your graphic account of your effort to
"lovethest’ that aardvark went too far
for a family forum.

I wrote this in the Apology to Doc Jones thread.
Tal has requested that I remove this
‘scurrilous insinuation.’

Let me put the matter plainly. Tal never mentioned
an aardvark, nor did he say anything suggesting
an interest in communing carnally
with an aardvark. There was no account, graphic
or otherwise, of relations with one. Nor did he express, to my
knowledge. an interest in loving all things both
great and small. I expect he may well sympathize
with the statement, as do many of us;
but there has never been any indication that he
would construe it so as to involve untoward
relations with an aardvark or anything else
great or small.

My apologies to Tal and to the board for
misrepresenting the missing post. I actually don’t
know what it said. Emphatically, there isn’t the slightest reason
to think it had anything to do with aardvarks.
I made it up.

Seriously. Is somebody leaving the board because I deleted a post about suicide, chickens, and bestiality? Or am I losing my mind?

Please do not take it amiss if I observe that the term
‘beastiality’ is a Victorian construct that expresses
a deeply negative view of non-human creatures.
They are no more beasts than we are.
Sometimes we are more ‘beastial,’ frankly.
And chickens have
long been distinguished from ‘beasts,’ as in
‘the birds and the beasts.’

The idea that communion with animals, ‘dumb brutes’
and so on, is innapropriate flows from
an anthropocentric theism that costs our partners
on this planet dearly, you can be sure.. Even sexual communion with
the non-human must be reconsidered independently
of such categories. Much is made of the
issue of whether the animal ‘consents,’ however
animals seldom consent in nature. Imposing
human norms on the non-human is part of
a pervasive misunderstanding, a rhetoric of oppression,
that contaminates our relationship with nature.

Yes, ‘Why I Deleted The Chicken Thread’ is our shining
moment, I believe.

I once posted a message:

‘Will sell mother to the white slave trade in return for
whistles.’

The moderators deleted it almost immediately,
but not before I received three offers. None
of the whistles were in keys I need, unfortunately.
