Another Uilleann piper joins UP forum

I started piping with pipes on loan scheme from Tom Clarke piping Class in Belfast. Brendan O’Hare (Belfast) made my first D practice Set in December 1994.

Then in September 1997 I got a C chanter Snakewood art ivory/brass with 3 keys from Andreas Rogge using the above practice set. As I liked the sound of the C Chanter I decided to up grade to a half set mainstock drones bag and bellows in sakewood from Andreas Rogge and got them in March 1999.

My uilleann Pipes in now full set left-handed in ‘C’ Snakewood art ivory/brass, pin mounted regulators which i got in December 2001 and the Chanter is now has 4 keys. About march 2003 I got Andreas Rogge to put art ivory on the Chanter top part and the mainstock.

I also have two chanters made by Andreas Rogge. B chanter plumwood boxwood/brass 4 keys and D chanter ebony art ivory/brass 3 keys.

I have placed a order for a D chanter plumwood boxwood/brass 4 keys and no date yet when it will be ready.

Photos of my uilleann pipes made by Andreas Rogge is on Patrick D’ Arcy web site http://www.concentric.net/~pdarcy/page5/page5i.shtml

Nice set of pipes Fergus. Enjoy your time here the board. Lots of opinions as you can see, and we always appreciate one more. Thought I’d post your pics over on the other thread, hope you don’t mind.

Welcome Fergus.
You gave me a wee shot on your C chanter [and very nice it was too] at the Folk & Transport museum in September.

Hey Furgus…I just noticed this pic of Trevor Stewart that you sent in to Patrick D’Arcy’s web site.

That’s great! I have his album that he recorded with the Irish Country Four back in the 70’s. I finally tracked him down, thanks to a connection through Boyd. You know he was the All-Ireland pipe champ didn’t you in 1976? Not many people know about him as he kind of slipped back into obscurity. But I got an email from him last year and sounds like he’s enjoying his Rogge set.

Welcome, Fergus.

Say hello to Tom from me, we’ve known each other since we sang together in the UCD college choir, before I really discovered trad music. I haven’t seen him since about 1998 when I went to an NPU tionol looking for advice on buying a full set. Tom was one of the people who recommended Andreas Rogge. I followed that advice, and have no complaints.
