A Spectacular Sky Over the Grand Tetons

Yes, spectacular skies over Big Tits are wonderful..

I guess most of us around here are over the joke that our most spectacular mountain range was named by mountain men who had been out in the hills just a little too long. Unfortunate name, but I believe they coined the term “breathtaking” to describe the first view of the Tetons from Togowatee pass. It’s sort of a moment of renewal for me every year when we make our annual Christmas drive over to Jackson Hole. Something I enjoy sharing with “flatlander” friends, watching (in between negotiating curves and dodging moose and tourists) their faces when they first see it. It’s like seeing the ocean or the Grand Canyon or the Milky Way.

Spectacular, glorious picture.

Just kidding, Tom. I have only been to Western Alberta once and to British Columbia twice, but I couldn’t get enough of being in the mountians. I have heard the Rockies are even bigger and more majestic down in the US. As soon as I win the lottery, that will be one of my travel destinations for sure.

No worries, DJM. Sorry to get snippy on ya–Don’t like people makin’ fun of my mountains. :laughing:

Funny, one of my goals, once I win the lottery, is to drive the Al-Can and see the Canadian Rockies. Maybe we’ll wave to each other as we pass.

  • You think you’ll find some mountains in western Colorado;
    Fifty weeks of snowy peaks is where you’re gonna be.
    But babe, the Rocky Mountains are gradually eroding…
    The hills of Coors are nothing more than Blue Ridge wannabes!

Clever! :laughing: How about this:

You think you’ll find some mountains in southern Appalacia
some truly rugged country, up there amongst the sky
But babe, them ain’t been mountains for quite a few millenia:
For that you gotta head out west to CO, MT, and WY.

:smiley:

Touché.

Yeah, but I really had to stretch for the rhyme…
