2nd West Coast Chiff Gathering: JUNE 5

Okay, I was busted twice earlier by Bay Area chiffers so I guess I have to come out of hiding now. I can come if the date is June 5th. So now that that is settled and since you guys aren’t being decisive we’ll go for June 5th… nobody has said they couldn’t do that day and it’s early enough that Feadogin can come. So now we just need to decide on food and times? I’ll leave that up to you guys but if you need something cooked/bbq’ed I’m up for lending a hand.

No objections on June 5th? It’s all about ME!!! That date would be cool cause then Karina could come then too and we could give you a couple of fiddle flute duets… hehe and she could pay for gas

Alright Limuhead… I pretended I didn’t know these guys either so if I came out in the open you have to too!!!

Sounds great…something like this? Looks like fun, a dulcimer crossed with a nykelharpa.

I’m most likely going to Lark Camp too, but I haven’t paid up yet. July 30 - August 7.

I am up for June 5th. Everyone else chime in, Yeah or Nay.

If not then, put up your top three open dates and then we can select the best one.

Tony, are the any conflict dates with the location you suggested?

Yep, but not nearly so classy as that one.

As for June 5th, that’s fine with me–as far as I know now. The sooner I can pin down my son to take care of his Mom, the better, though.

June 5th would be no problem with me. I don’t think I can stand reviewing this whole thread one more time to figure out when the most people can come. Would everyone post whether this is workable or not? Those who could make a different date, but not this one, should post also. Oh, my poor brain. (Remember, it’s all about conveniencing MurphyStout.)
Tony

I could come by June 5th in the evening (I’ll be working during the day).

Justine

I can do June 5th, though I’ll have to leave before 6PM. (Board meeting that night)

But it still works better for me than the next two weekends.

I haven’t heard any ‘no’s’ for June 5. Let me get permission from my mom this eve. (She woundn’t deny her favorite son. Her angel.) Just to be on the safe side, I’ll run out and get her a mother’s day card.
Tony

Okay, I squared it with the boss (I mean my mom) and June 5 is fine with her. She warned me that no one is to repeat the debacle of throwing her good forks into the garbage with the paper plates. Thanks to Mrs. Weekender, two were retrieved. I was stunned to hear of that. :astonished: So, there you have it.

Next item: a menu. I’m hoping for good weather (you all be hoping as well), so that means barbeque. Teriyaki chicken and hot links springs to mind. Anything else? (Besides beer; that’s a given.) If there’s some dish you specialize in and like to show off with, perfect. If someone wants to do garlic bread, salad, desert, etc, speak up.
Tony

I have been for early June all along so June 5 is great.

I’m in for a green salad. I assume that the meal part is later in the afternoon as I am busy untill about 2 pm. Let me know if not and I will drop it off before rehearsal.

For best economy, mebbe we should bring what we want to grill for ourselves so nobody gets stuck buying meat, always the most expensive thing..Or pool cash there for whoever did.

I think I can do June 5th, but it will be later in the day/eve rather than earlier. I would say there’s a 65% chance I can make it. If I come, I’ll bring some food of some sort. Not deviled eggs again unless I can get the car…I remember they didn’t hold up well on the bus…

Should I bring my fiddle that I can’t play yet?

Okay, I forced myself to once again, review the thread for a consensus and June 5 doesn’t seem to be a problem for almost everyone. I checked with my mom yesterday and she said fine, except, no highland pipes. (Past-life trauma or some such.) I don’t foresee a tidal wave of objections, so, let’s nail it to June 5. The sooner that’s done, the sooner people can plan. I always feel bad for the person who can’t make that day, but, I’m resigned to the fact that it always happens no matter what one decides. Let us know and we’ll raise our glasses to you.

Week’s idea of people bringing their favorite dead animal flesh to sear over coals sounds good. What would be a good time to fire up the barbeque? What’s a general consensus of when people will be swinging by? Last year, people arrived at different times, but most people ate together around 6 or so, if I remember. (I couldn’t wait and was eating while I was greeting the first arrivals- who ignored me, by the way, and went straight for my whistles to try out.)

And, people, get your hair done. There’ll be digital cameras out and an update to the Clips photo site. :astonished:

As an enticement to show up, we had available for everyone to try: O’Riordans in D/C, D’s by Busman, Abell, Overton, Serpent, thin weasel, Hoover, low D’s by Overton, Howard, Alba, Copeland, O’Riordan, Dixon…you get the idea, I can’t remember but a fraction of the selection. We’ve all had time to indulge our Whoa, so there’ll be more, I’m sure. Paul Busman is sending a delrin and a wood whistle so it will arrive for people to try. Hey, we could have a whistle swap/flea market.
Tony

I don’t know exactly what I will bring regarding food stuffs, something fresh and homemade from Renee’s kitchen for sure.

I will be bringing my realigned whistle collection though, quickly becomeing a wood fanatic.

Currently: Bleazey D, G and Low D mopani, Shultz Thin Weasel D blackwood, Burns Folk Irish flute mopani, Sweetheart fife D maple.

Metal sticks: Alba High D, Overton Low D, Hoover Whitecap Bb and F.

Other stuff: Dixon D, Hoover CPVC F.

May (WILL!) have a Hoover Redwood D by that time as well.

The Weston High and Low D are in the neighborhood on tour. I will contact anyone that might be affected and see if they would mind them sticking around until after the 5th. The low should not be a problem but I will check on the High D. ADDED Simon has also offerred to send over one of his new wooden High D whistles in Redwood.

Steven

I can hang onto the Jetboy until then if you want…just let me know.

Uilleann pipes is ok, though, right?
See you June 5th,

J.

Uilleann pipes is ok, though, right?

Gee, I didn’t ask. Just kidding. U-pipes is great. My mom didn’t really say that about the highland pipes, but the rule still stands. (City ordinance or something.)
Tony

No changing it now–and no backing out for me. My older son is coming back two days early from a visit to his brother in Dallas, just to take over his Mom’s care so that I can go.

Wow, Mike, that is REALLY neat. Good on him. It appears you have a very strong family. sniff  sniff That is just so beautiful.

We Chinese are like that, you know. :stuck_out_tongue:

sniff > > sniff That is just so beautiful.

Careful. Don’t let those salty tears  drip on your wooden whistle.

Sorry Tony for not being more active… life’s crazy and there have been a few hiccups. Anyways, I’m down for handling the bbq main course providing I don’t have to foot the entire bill but if you guys want to bring your own stuff that’s cool as well. Anyways, me and Karina will carpool so I’d imagine we’d be there by mid afternoon or so. I’ll bring my flute and gen as always, prolly won’t do the strudel seeing as how it will be summer but I’ll figure out another tasty treat. Hope to see all of my old buddies there!

Hey blackhawk, it’s been a while, you comin to this thing?

Limuhead, where the hell are you?

Vaporlock? there’s still a few seats open for the carride down.

Anybody hear f rom any of the other silent members from the last getogether? Switchfoot and KCJiang to name a few?
