I’ve signed up and reserved a hotel room. I hope this doesn’t keep anyone else from wanting to be there ![]()

Nah, we’ll be there in spite of this.!

#$%&$%^ I forgot to get a hotel.. Where are you guys staying?
Also, anyone wanting to car pool from Atlanta, let me know…my ride’s easy on the gas.
![]()

Easy on the gas, but how about the legs and back?

Not a problem, as I’m vertically challenged anyway. The brocure says it seats 4 adults (or 16 clowns)…and it comes with a shoehorn. ![]()

Jerry O’Sullivan joins us for the tionol due to Benedict’s illness.
Jerry O’Sullivan is a great guy and piper, I look forward to seeing him again.
I’ll be there. Look forward to seeing everyone and enjoying some great music!
p.s. I lived in Gainesville for several years during college and be warned that I’ll be trying to round up folks to go to the Miller Ale House with me for lunch on Saturday. They have a signature sandwich called The Big Red, which is a breaded-and-deep-fried boneless chicken breast tossed in wing sauce and covered in melted cheese, served with a side of ranch or blue cheese (depending on your preference). Heaven on a bun! First person to have a heart attack wins!
Mt arteries are hardening, even as I read this.
I’m there…(as long as they serve Ale with that sandwich). ![]()

Getting closer folks, this weekend in point of fact. Time for those who are still sitting on the fence to take the plunge and sign up. It promises to be a great weekend for piping (if one can truly go by the weather forecasts) and there’s going to be some great music to be heard and played.
Here’s the place to do it http://www.southeastpipersclub.org
Failing that, perhaps sending John Maze a PM letting him know of your intent to participate.
Thanks ebberbody.
Well, it’s almost time for me to head up to Gainesville, stopping at a couple of Arundo patches along the way. I will be out of touch until Sunday evening so Nano is your man.
All yoos guys heading to the Tionol, have a safe trip and drive safely!
Auf Wiedersehen!
The 2007 Southeast Tionol: Best reason to leave work at noon on a Friday. Ever.
Looks like I’m going to miss the welcoming dinner—paying a visit to my North Florida in-laws—but will catch up with everyone later on!
Just back from another great Tionol in Gainesville. Excellent job John (et.al.)…!
Tremendous piping weekend (I heard rumors there were other classes for flute, fiddle and concertina…but didn’t hear or see much of them).
Thanks to Jason for introducing us to “The Big Red”..now the official meal of the SE Tionol. ![]()
Great to see so many returning friends, and fantastic to meet several new ones as well.
I’ll post pictures tomorrow…now its off to unload the Mini (maybe 5 minutes work) and practice a couple of tunes before bed.

Indeeed, many kudos to John Maze with honorable mention to Larre Burke for service above and beyond the call of duty in getting this year’s tionol up and running… in spite of my neurosis getting in the way. Thanks guys, it was a tremdous time.
It was a pleasure to re-acquaint my self with Michael Cooney after roughly 12 years or so. MNichael is a wonderful fellow whose personality, piping and sense of phrasing is a great pleasure to experience.
It was also a great joy to share space and tunes with friends from past tionols… Gary White, Gary Livesay, Dave Boling, Geordie Ord, Nick Vaccaro, Kathleen Cavanagh, Michael the “Cajun Corvis”… great tune swap Sunday morning!!
and finally a chance to meet John Friedman.
And it was really, really nice to meet up with Jerry O’Sullivan again. His generous spirit, positive outlook, bizzare sense of humor
and (of course) mighty musicianship are a real treat for the soul! We have begun negotiations into creating a tutor for the Uilleann Pipes… “Piping, so easy a Caveman can do it” aka, ‘Bad Noise is OW!’. I really look forward to the collaboration. Keep an eye on this space for news of future developments. ![]()
Thanks to everyone who came to the tionol to work, play, socialize, eat, hang out, birdwatch, you name it! Though I did not get to do any classes (about an hour in one of Jerry’s classes) i think it was one of if not THE best one we have done down here in Florida. Everyone was warm and happy, the weather was perfect, and for the concert we did not have to deal with any smokey cramped pubs and their owners!
Thank you Tim, Michael, Siobhan, Willie, Jerry, and Joseph for your wonderful insights into the music. The concert, complete with beautiful dancing, was absolutely exquisite! Time to throw support to Snoogie for next years SE Tionol, who may be coerced to doing it in Atlanta yet again for a wonderful Peachy weekend! Thanks Snoogie for all of your help with the website, registration, t-shirts, support, everything!
See you guys in East Durham this summer!
maze (desperately in need of sleep).
I broiught the camera up, but like a space case, I forgot to take any tionol photos. ![]()
But I did take a couple of images on my way up to Gainesville. The first is of the Arundo I harvested… it promise to be really nice stuff. I was also able to take in a fair amount of drone sized stuff, the actual amount of usable guills is as of yet undetermined but I’ll sort that out sometime this week.

This next image I shot after my harvesting. This is one of the variety of critters I have the pleasure of encountering while I trudge my way through swampy areas. A very good sized Water Moccasin, I estimate her length around 3.5 feet. Beautiful snake!

Let me add another public “thank you” to Mista Maze and co. for putting on a such a wonderful weekend. The program flowed seamlessly and the fact that John’s duties kept him from participating in classes shows a real selflessness. Thank you!
Joseph, I was also very humbled by your generosity in setting me up with a new chanter reed (voluntarily, I might add). If I made any ear-pleasing sounds over the weekend, it was largely due to your contribution.
I had a wonderful time, learned some beautiful tunes, saw some awe-inspiring live music (Michael Cooney and Jerry O’Sullivan…my god), made some new friends. Oh, and I ate a deep-fried chicken sandwich tossed in wing sauce and covered in melted cheese. Then I ate a second one on my way out of town.
Favorite quote of the weekend: “I need to step outside and get a breath of fresh smoke.” (Geordie)
I love this instrument and the people who play it.
I was honored to do so. Nice meeting you Jason! ![]()
Dagnabbit… sounds like a great weekend… wish I had been able to make it this year. Fortunately in 2008, I won’t have a newborn to contend with. Glad to hear that ye ladies and gents had quite the craic.
In other news, SWMBO has given tentative approval for Swannanoa this year… did I mention how much I LOVE her yet?
