Just one last shameless plug for the 2005 Florida Tionol. It promises to be a great time and I hope to see a lot of Chiffers there! ![]()
Gainesville tionol? Florida tionol?
How about âThe Gator Land Tionol?â
NE1 of U guys have a bag made of gator hide?
âŚhmmmmmm, not that I know of. Personally, I think the hide looks best on the Gator. Now, if somebody could figure out a way to tie in drones, regs and chanter without losing limb or life, that would be something. ![]()
I do like the sound of âGator Land Tionolâ.
Iâll be there. Not only is it my first tionol, but I might be the only Philadelphian in Florida who isnât there for the Super Bowl!
Cheers,
Mark
I look forward to meeting you there Mark, it will be a grand time I am certain.
Out of curiosity, who else from this forum will be in attendance? Gary (snoogie), what time/day are you planning on showing up?
Have fun this weekend and play nice ![]()
Yeah, itâll be great to get away for three days or so. I will do my level best to play nice, but I cannot make any promises. ![]()
Joseph,
Iâll be there Friday evening. Along with Matt (buttermilk piper) and a fiddle player in tow. Itâs only a nine hour drive from Knoxville. Had a grand time last year; and know that this year will be even better. Canât wait.
Rick
ps Whatâs on tap this year? ![]()
Hmmmmm, good question. Mike Henry (the piper with the OâGrady 1/2 set last year) is the biermeister⌠not sure if he was last year or not, but I enjoyed the selection⌠again, not sure what it was but it went down good and fast. ![]()
Itâll be nice to see you again Rick, in addition to meeting your friends. ![]()
Iâm leaving Atlanta noon-ish on Friday and depending on weather and traffic should be arriving between 5 and 6pmâŚjust in time for the tapping of the keg! ![]()
I know there is another Atlanta contengent (sorry, I canât spell) that is also heading down thereâŚa couple of fiddlers and a flute player I think.
Lookin forward to it!
What time will you be in attendance Mr. Smith? -gary
P.S. edited to addâŚIâm not making any promises either ![]()
Joseph,
After 9 hours on the road, who cares what the label on the keg says! ![]()
Snoogie, Iâll bet that Atlanta contingent includes Pellham. Also Kathryn, a good fiddler and friend of a fiddler from Knoxville thatâs coming with her. So letâs see thatâs two pipers and two fiddlers from Knoxville. A box player had to pull out at the last minute. (Is that a different note on the pull?
)
Rick
I am with you my brother from another mother! ![]()
I hope to be rolling into Gainesville around 3 pm, checking into my room, having a bite to eat and a cuppa Lyonâs. After that, I am not really sure until the keg is tapped.
You are correct about the attendeesâŚ
By the way, Iâm bringing my friend Mr. James On in case you need to unwind after 9 hours on the road and the beerâs not doin it. ![]()
Seamie? What a pal! ![]()
Just a quick note of thanks to the organizers of the 2005 FL Tionol.
thanks for all the hard work.
Debbie Quigley is a great teacher..I got home and was able to remember how to play the tune she taught us by ear..a first for me to remember a tune taught by ear without going back to the tape multiple times (or cheating and finding the dots).
Too many other things to mention and Iâm a bit sleepyâŚmore another day.
Regards,
Gary
Well? How was it? What great adventures were had?
djm
I hope everyone had a great time and were able to take home some of the wisdom, insight and tunes that our wonderful guest instructors imparted to us.
It was great meeting the faces behind the avatars here on C&F: Mark Statton (sp?), Dave Boling, Matt, Micheal et. al.
A great big thank you to Brian McNamara, Debbie Quigley, Patrick Hutchinson, Kieran OâHare, Liz Knowles, Sandy Jones, John Skelton, Ged Foley and Paddy League for sharing their knowledge, skill and music with us.
And an especially huge thank you to everyone who registered for this event⌠your participation is what made it possible and very pleasurable!
Pictures to follow soonâŚ
I enjoyed it for the most part.
I really enjoyed the playing and instruction of Debbie Quigley, what a nice and positive person she is!
Patrick Hutchinson shared some valuable insight into the execution of playing rolls and other techniques.
I didnât enjoy it as much as I would have liked to, and that was due primarily to the fact that the Howard Johnsonâs I was supposed to have stayed at misquoted the price to me, so after one night I had to look for other lodgingsâŚwhich aided toward inducing a severe headache resulting in my missing the Staurday evening concert.
But I really enjoyed reuniting with last yearâs attendees, and meeting this yearsâ new people. It was especially nice to finally meet Wally Charm, and listen to his wonderful playing on Friday evening.
David, all the palm trees told me to say âhelloâ. ![]()
A big THANK YOU to all of the instructors (especially Patrick Hutchinson and Debbie Quigley for putting up with my stone ear, and concrete reed!), and to the organizers who surely put in more hours than we would care to imagine. Sitting up front at the Saturday night concert and hearing the phenominal piping was transcending.
Here are a few pictures of Debbie Quigly and Patrick Htchinson.

Here Debbie and Gary Livesay go over the Mike Rafferty reel âFeeding The Birdsâ. Debbie on her K&Q 3/4 set, Gary on his K&Q 1/2 set. Both sets really sounded excellent!

Both Debbie Quigley and Patrick Hutchinson were mighty instructors, and I feel they both covered a lot of valuable ground involved with piping.
By the way, Debbie Quigleyâs new K&Q 3/4 set is stunning to behold up close and in person!
