WTB: Skip Healy Flute

Does anyone have a Skip Healy flute they would like to sell?

I had the flute from JoFo, it was great but I have sold it on. as I was happier with my Millyard Molem D flute.

Hi accordionstu. If you don’t mind me asking, inwhat way was you happier with your Millyard? And what model do you have?

Hi Karl, I bought a keyless Rudall Rose model from Tony Millyard. I had been playing it a month when I collected the Skip Healy Flute. The Skip Healy flute has all six holes on the barrell whereas the Millyard flute has two seperate sections with three holes making it possible to twist the lower section to suit your grip better. I find when iam sitting on the sofa my right arm is bent and I have little movement so i twist the bottom section clockwise slightly and I can better cover the holes. if i am standing I twist the bottom section anti clockwise and it feels more comfortable covering the holes. This isn’t possible on the Skip Healy and I suppose I had gotten used to playing the way i was, when I tried playing the Skip Healy Flute I missed some notes, the bottom F# and E rolls were feint.

I also found that the embouchure hole was less responsive than the Millyard and the tone I can produce on the Millyard was better in my opinion. I suppose If I had only purchased the Skip healy, I probably wouldn’t have appreciated the differences. i hope this helps, I certainly don’t want to discredit the SH flute, I just preffered the Millyard

I can vouch for Tony Milyard. I have a keyless blackwood R and R and its really great. Very sweat sounding, easy to play and on the louder side. I have a Byrne and an Olwell R&R and Tony’s flute is pretty darn good.

I have a Byrne, which I feel is the best rudally flute I’ve ever played. But I haven’t played the Olwell rudall, nor the old rudalls. Though I do have a small holed cocus ‘rudall’ that was imported to NYC about 1840.
