Hello All,
I’m interested in purchasing a keyless irish flute: I was thinking of the Sweetheart Resonance Blackwood…I have a Sweet blackwood fife I like a great deal.
At the same price point is the Copley/Beogli keyless also in blackwood (a favorite wood of mine).
Any comments or recommendations on one over another?
Thanks in advance, Anthony
there are some other options too.
Martin Doyle makes excellent flutes.
so does hammy Hamilton, so does Casey Burns,
so does Terry McGee, and so on.
if you use the search function at the top of the page,
you can find a lot of information about these. Also
a google search.
people may be a bit reticent in saying which flutes they think are best.
i have a brand new dymond wood resonance coming from Ralph Sweet------i might consider selling-i had a second hand one, i bought, and i found some manufacture defects with it ( not because of ralph, but a hire’ee that did not work out too good) anyway I sent it back to Ralph and he is going to send me a NEW one right from his fresh batch-----great guy
I have a keyless Hamilton in blackwood and a five-key Ormiston in blackwood that I’m looking to sell ahead of acquiring a Grinter in the near future. Both come with cases.
I can ship to the US if you’re prepared to cover the postage/insurance. PM if you’re interested and I’ll happily provide you with more info and pics if required.
Regards,
Richard.
And another PM to you Jazzman with a flute available.
im waiting for a Casey Burns folk flute, cant wait to get it.
First of all, thanks to all my new friends who replied to my post, sent me personal emails and personal messages. I appreciate everyone’s assistance.
I’ve made my selection: A Cochran Rudall in blackwood, that I believe is already played. I expect to receive early part of next week.
I probably should have prefaced by saying I’ve been playing flute for over 30 years, for some of those years professionaly, mostly jazz and show bands as a double (I’ve played clarinet, sax and bassoon for over 45 years).
I now mostly play for myself now on guitar and mandolin, though I still keep my union card. I have a friend with whom we play Homer and Jethro type swing who is harder to find as he spends most of his time playing Irish music so it seemed like a natural thing to expand my horizons (I also play bluegrass mandolin, receiving rather strange looks when my solos follow the style of Bird and Trane rather than Bill Monroe).
If anyone is interested, I’m selling a sterling silver alto flute and a sterling hand-made Muramatsu flute…though I can’t say I’m very aggressive about doing either.
Thanks everyone, Anthony
