Hi everybody,
The title says it all: does anyone have a laughing whistle by Noah Herbison that they’re interested in selling? Email, PM, or reply here, whatever’s easiest.
Hi everybody,

Good luck, my friend! Everyone I’ve ever met, heard of or read here that has one is not about to let it go. You can order one direct from Noah, which I highly recommend. Nice guy, wonderful whistles… Even if you have to wait, you will find it is worth it.
very nice whistle indeed.

Yea I think I would pop for the few extra bucks and just buy it new.
Sadly, Noah is out of the whistle business. He’ll be finishing up whatever orders he has and then he’ll be out of the business for the forseeable future.
Noah really is a very nice fellow and I’ve enjoyed working with him. Delightful whistles in every respect.
Doc
Dang! I thought you had some of the beasties at your store, Doc, but when I posted my link (I have edited it out) I checked your site and Noah’s whistles were not listed.
So, I guess those of us with Laughing’s already are lucky, huh?
M
That is tragic, and made me run get my laughing whistle so I could play a few rounds of Girl I Left Behind Me.
Possibly there could be someone who doesn’t love his/her Herbison as much and will let it go on eBay or something. Worth watching.
Noah Herbison’s website: http://nherbison.tripod.com/
His email address is given as nherbison at hotmail dot com.
There is no mention of him stopping whistle production. I have not contacted him, but I was in Victoria recently, where he lives, and several of his low whistles were available in a music store.
Sorry- I may have jumped the gun- that’s his older website I just mentioned. I can’t find his newer one that had a link to his poetry site.
I debated ordering an LW a few months ago, but I guess I waited too long. Sure would like to see some other enterprising maker pick up on that design!
Yup, that’s a very old website. Noah gave me the information this week.
He’s having some challenges which needn’t be blathered all over the WWW, but suffice to say they are of such a nature that he will not be making whistles in the forseeable future. Wonderful fellow and I wish him the best as I’m sure we all do.
I hope he’ll someday be in a position to bless the world with his delightful tooters again.
Doc
Hi everyone,
Thanks for the replies…as you’ve seen, the reason for me posting here is that these lovely little creatures are sadly not available anymore. I too debated getting one a few months ago and now have cause to regret I didn’t…I thought what’s the worst that’ll happen? The price will go up. didn’t think he’d stop making them
.
O’Brien, you wouldn’t happen to remember the name of that music store in Victoria, would you? What I really wanted was the high whistle, but I would probably have gotten the low as well in time, and now I see I should get what’s left if any.
Sigh. Oh well, its a lesson learned. I’ll keep an eye on ebay and here, and maybe one will turn up, someone will take up the mantle, or Noah will come back to it.
It’s either Dragon Song or Galliard, which are both in Fan Tan Alley. I’ll be back there in a few weeks and I’ll check them out.
Sorry to hear he’s not going to making them. I hope it all turns out for the best for him in the long run. I’ll have to hover over my friend’s Laughing Whistle a little more then. ![]()
That’s too bad. They are such nice and unique whistles. I carry mine with me always. Maybe I should put it in a safer place .
Well, I called Dragon Song today, and they used to have them, but not any more (sold the last one several days ago:( ). I’ll try Galliard tommorow just to be complete, but I’m not optimistic. Thanks for the replies everyone…
Have a look here. http://www.members.shaw.ca/noahherbison/music/index.htm
That’s very sad news. Doc, I assume you’re out of his stock then?
One can never have too many laughing whistles..
Yup. ![]()
Doc
It sure would be nice if another builder would pick up where Mr.Herbison left off, by making new ones.
Conical (and no ridiculous seam on the back!), telescoping/colapsable - The design seems so perfect. I don’t know why no one else is building them this way.
