Does anyone know if Noah Herbison is still making these? When avanutria was here, she said that she didn’t think he was, but wasn’t totally positive. Any help you all can give would be wonderful…now that I’ve played that darn thing, the WhOA is killing me! ![]()
This comes up fairly often. The collective wisdom seems to be that he’s not making them anymore. Good luck in your quest!
Hey Izz…If you’re in the market for a new pennywhistle, click here and listen to the track: http://www.burkewhistles.com/ This should decide you on what to buy. ![]()
Izzy, here’s a link to Noah Herbison’s website, which says it was last updated 2/29/07. It still lists the brass Laughing Whistles. Send him an email and see what happens.
It is a great whistle … I like mine! (NYAH, NYAH - I have one!
)

Izzy,
I’d offer to sell my Laughing Whistle to you, but I already sold it a while back… to avanutria. ![]()
Cool! I had the old site, and that email address didn’t work. Thank you, Judy!
Oh, and you know, if you ever need someone to take that Laughing Whistle off your hands, I’m sure I can find a place for it next to that Water Weasel you sold me a while back ![]()
If it’s the same one (because I know she has more than one of them) I can’t for the life of me understand why you sold it! Good grief, Slood Dood! That whistle is awesome!!!
You know, Hamster Boy, you do have that lovely Burke, and for now I’m still envious. But if I can convince Mr Izz to let me buy that Laughing Whistle, I won’t care one bit about your Burke. So there ![]()
But, you’re still going to let me play it when I’m out there, right?

I was led to understand shortly after I got one for my neighbor that we will not be seeing any new Laughing Whistles.
I hope it reverses, but I have had no luck in contact whenever this question comes up. She’s agreed to will it to me, and I’ve agreed (reluctantly) not to do her in early for it. ![]()
Annie, I thought the same thing. The LW I have is one I sold last summer to a friend, with a first refusal option if it was ever re-sold. (Thanks, BH, for selling it back!) Right after he bought it, there was some type of announcement on C&F that the LW would be produced no more. But with the website still online and updated in February … maybe there’s a chance for new ones. But, I dunno for sure …

Izzy, I’ll put you down for the LW should I ever go crazy and sell it again … ![]()
I have just heard from Noah Herbison…he says
…had stopped taking orders because I lost the use of a workshop when I moved to a new place. Recently I arranged to borrow use of a friends workshop in exchange for odd jobs so that I could finish some outstanding orders, so I can take a few more orders.
The going rate is $80 for the telescoping ones. I’m not sure the paypal address is working but I’m going to try it.
Margaret
Thank you so much for this information, Margaret!
YAY! If I can convince Mr Izz of the desperate need I have for it, I may be contacting Noah by next week! ![]()
You beat me to it. I received a similar response, with the additional comment, “…but I don’t think I will go into full scale production again, as it pays me less than minimum wage…”
You guys are gonna kill me … I told him to raise his prices. ![]()
AACCKK!!! Then I’d better get Mr Izz to let me buy it sooner rather than later, eh?
Hi -
Has anyone heard from the elusive Noah Herbison? When I saw this thread, I contacted him. He emailed me back and said he was able to make whistles again. I ordered one and have subsequently emailed him a couple of times just to get a ballpark idea of when it might arrive, but no response. Maybe he’s not an avid computer user & doesn’t check his email obsessively - all the better for him!
Anyone know anything? Judith
If the Laughing Whistle isn’t available anymore, you can get a O’Brien Stowaway.
I did not know that he made Hochiku.
Neat.
Nice sound on those O’Brien Stowaways!
I have an O’Brien Rover in Bocote in C. It doesn’t collapse but comes apart in three pieces. Incredibly handy, fits right in a pocket or fanny pack.
And nice balance between the octaves.
I’m trying to be patient… I’m trying…
I ordered one from him, too, when I read this thread. I sent him payment and haven’t heard anything since. I sent him an e-mail not too long ago and nothing. Anyone else know anything?
