I got my check sent out to Noah before the Sep 1 deadline for sale price…
I’m assuming he’s busy with school and stuff and I don’t want to bother him. So can any of you tell me how long it takes to get one?? I guess I’m just too excited to handle it!
Hey Lori!
The answer is…longer than mine! hehe. I haven’t gotten mine either yet. He’s probably on a semester system, which means if they aren’t done by December 1st ish it will be after Christmas (finals time). I have tried to do woodworking while in classes and it does NOT work. I haven’t touched my scroll saw since May because I’ve been in classes all summer and this fall too. I haven’t even started making my whistle case yet. =(
I’ll let you know if I hear any projected dates.

Is Noah pretty good about answering email? I sent an inquiry to him on the 8th and haven’t heard back. I’m interested in ordering a couple of whistles from him. Thanks for any feedback.
Yes, i emailed him either yesterday or the day before and he just got back to me.
He said he’s really swamped with school, but he’s working on the whistles as soon as he can…
Yep, he’s been great with communication. Once I got an email from him that was blank, but he later said that that happens with some of the school computers and Hotmail. So if you get a blank email from him, tell him that happened and he will write again.
Also remember that in school, an exam can be more vital than World War Three, so a couple day’s wait for a reply can be necessary at times.
MLK, you may want to send another email since it’s been two weeks. I know sometimes people email me and I have to put it off, and then I completely forget to respond.

I got my whistle from Noah in 2 or 3 months, I don’t remember which. I was a bit antsy because I hadn’t heard much experience about it, and it took longer than he said, but not by much. I bugged him more than I probably should have, though I tried not to.
Thanks Greg. I actually found that review once doing a google search for ‘laughing whistle’. But I can’t find your sound clip of Egan’s Polka, do you still have it? If you could post a link or email it to me I would really appreciate it.
Beth:
My website is having troubles currently, so I can’t post the sound file there. Evidently Roadrunner is now filtering port 80 (where web traffic comes through) because of the code red and nimda worms. They said last week that they weren’t going to, but evidently changed their minds, as I last got traffic 2 days ago. Because of the way cable modems work (looks like a lan), folks in the houston.rr.com zone can still get to my website, but everyone else is cut off.
I’m currently exploring other options, and have hopes to have it back up within the week. Until then, bout the only way I could think of to get the sound file to you would be to email. I don’t have the old one..but it’s simple enough to make a new one! If you don’t mind me mailing you about a 1-meg file, I’ll be happy to send it along.
Back to the topic, I looked at my review, which said I got my whistle 1/16/01. I sent my check to noah (looking in my Quicken histories) 11/5/00, so it was about 2 months exactly (estimating a several-day mailing time so close to the holiday seasons) that it took to get my whistle. Of course, your mileage may vary, as Mr. Herbison is a guy, and not a factory, and so crafting times can be influenced by all of the human factors.
Greg
P.S. Point of note: There are many ways to clear moisture from a whistle, as I’m sure we’re all aware. I’m inclined to use the “cover the windway a little and blow hard” technique. Just to warn you, Noah uses something (clay or wax or soemthing) internally in the windway, and I have ended up blowing all of this stuff out. (Maybe I just have good lungs!) The whistle is a bit louder as a result, but the bell note seems a wee bit less stable. So, I would take care in clearing the windway…especially when blowing hard, or when using a foriegn object to swab up the moisture.

Hey Greg!
I’ve got a university internet connection, so I can take whatever you can throw at me, most likely! =) Feel free to send more than one tune. Please send to the address in my profile. I can temporarily host 5 megs or so worth on my website if you like.
Thanks for the windway warning! What method of moisture removal would you suggest? I’m not too familiar with the various ways yet - at the first session I went to (last week!) I saw a whistler cover the soundhole and blow hard…it took me a few seconds to figure out what he was doing!

Thanks!
Thanks for the offer! The 500 tunes or so on the website take up 16 megs for the sheet music alone (.gif files, no database structure, etc)! Add the sound files, and the pics of my son, and all the support files and it shoots up to 146 megs..whee. I have a friend with DSL, and I think I’m just gonna pack up the entire server and move it over there. I’ll send the tunes for you tonight..feel free to put them on the web if anyone else is interested in hearing the Laughing Whistle.
For clearing the windway, you could give the whistle a good shake (be sure not to fling the end off..or to fling it on someone like a holy water dispenser!) or tap it on your leg…I recall a long time ago reading a very funny web site that told of the various methods that irish flutists use to clear their instruments, but I can’t seem to find it now.

I mailed my order July 9th and the check has cleared. At that time he said it would take 2 to 3 months. We’re at 2 1/2 months now, and I’m checking the mail everyday. Of course now Noah’s in school…
