Laughing whistle

Does anyone here have a laughing whistle for sale? Thanks all.

I have a low D laughing for sale, but no highs. Please send a private message or an email if you would like more info on it.

That would be the last of mine to go…

for those of us who are not only ‘out of the loop’, but pretty loopy anyway… just what is a “laughing whistle”?

Noah Herbison’s laughing whistles are three piece brass whistles which ‘telescope’ - slide in upon themselves to a length of under 7 inches.

They are extremely quiet and pure tone, which some people don’t like but others do. I used to have some pics and such, I will have to see if I still have them.

I am a big fan of Laughing whistles. I have owned a Low D, a C, and five or six high D’s. Noah is a university student in Canada and has cut down his production to make time for classes.

Thanks, avanutria! They sound very interesting.

I have one. It has a nice sound, it’s very soft, and clogs a lot. I mean, if you play a jig, it might clog 6 times before you finish part B. I developed a blow-and-suck method to deal with it.

You should be able to buy one from the maker (Noah Herbison?). Expect delays, be patient with the guy, he doesn’t have much time to respond to emails.

Yes, they do clog a lot. It’s a trade off for the low volume, I think, as Hoovers are quiet and often clog as well.

Here is a photo of the Laughing Low D:

I don’t seem to have a photo of the high laughing up, and my ftp isn’t letting me in, but I might get one up sometime soon.

Here is the official picture and the picture in Dale’s review:

The Web page has sound samples:

I’m pretty sure the price is wrong there. The high D was $75 when i bought it, but it could be more expensive now.

Dale’s review was what sold one for me:

Still $75 I ordered one back in May and am waiting patiently… from what I’ve heard it’s worth the wait, like most good things.

It’s one of those things… it’s not the whistle i’d take to a desert island… but still i don’t feel like getting rid of mine. It fills a specific niche, very well. I’ve had some fun with it.

I vote with your comments on this whistle.
I love mine because of the pure sound and that I can keep it in my purse so I’m always prepared. (plus the telescoping ability is just plain “neat”.)
