Wooff set for 230 Sterling?

Is this for real? Seems suspiciously cheap, I assume it’s been sold?

A year or so ago this same set was being sold on Ebay from some place in Florida (USA). The description was exactly the same.

The add quotes Geoff saying “by God when I got these going I couldn’t believe it , they sound like a frikin Rowsome set.” '.

It appears to have been relisted at £2300.

Still, pretty dodgy right?

But the price was in US$. I’d be suspicious.

Why not ask the seller a technical-sounding question, like “Does the set contain NPU-approved
reeds?”

Or say that you are very interseted and ask if the pipes could be picked up in person.

Hi folks,
I am the owner of the Woof half-set that was auctioned on Ebay about a year ago from Florida and am not re-selling it. I can’t remember all the spec’s of the original ebay posting but this posting does seem suspiciously similar as I did receive with the set hand written correspondences concerning reed making instructions and do remember the “frikin Rowsome set” comment from the original Ebay posting. I “frikin” love the set and am advising caution with this as something does smell fishy.
P.S Inquire as to the exact year it was made and number, it should be stamped on the main stock about the drone switch.
All the best,
John M

Thanks for all the information, especially from the current owner of the set. I have a Wooff C chanter so I’m not on the look out myself, was just surprised to see this narrow bore D set so cheap, but safe to assume that it is indeed a scam.

Dont its a scam I was emailing this guy for over 6 weeks and all he was interested in was a bank transfer of the money he wasnt interested in talking about the pipes at all so honestly be very cautious if you decide to proceed with this.

I think we always need to be cautious about tossing around the word “scam” without hard proof.

The right way is always to state your first-hand evidence (as people here have done) and let people decide for themselves.

They are back up again in London this time, with a six key chanter:

I’ve had a reply from the seller of the wooff set, bank transfer only, no pick up even though I only live 50 miles from london

I mailed seller and said I live in London and I’d pay cash. All of a sudden he is based in Scotland and will only accept bank transfer and will not allow collection only. Know doubt the advert will appear again shortly somewhere else.

Let’s call this thread done for now, with ample warning about the offer.
