Does anyone here own a Whitney whistle? What are your impressions of it? Is it easy to play, or challenging? Strong across octaves, or weak in the first or second octave? Breathy, or having a more pure sound? Anything you want to share would be great. I believe these whistles were only made in high D, and are no longer being made, but I could be wrong on both counts.

Just wanted to add that Chuck Whitney will be attending the Pipers Gathering in August and will have some of his current crop of whistles with him. This is in addition to Jerry Freeman and his broad range of tweaked whistles and the Celtic Cross Studio (Killarney, Alba, Chieftain, etc.). Lots of whistles to look at and try if you’re in the vicinity. The vendor’s area is open to the public, but registering gets you into lessons, workshops, concerts, sessions and stuff. Tattoos are extra. ![]()
Best wishes.
