I’ve done a search and red various threads pointing to learning resources. Thank you all for the generosity and great links. However, I can’t easily find indication of a great DVD for the whistle, or reviews of videos available.
I know that the fine person behind Tradlessons has come out with a DVD of the tunes on the site. That’s great and I intend to get one. But I am looking for a beginner’s introduction, a methodical instructional DVD for those wishing to learn the tinwhistle. It doesn’t have to be fancy. I’d even be quite happy with just having a very small number of tunes represented. What I’m looking for most is the visual aspect, a slow fingering, with explanation of the whys and wherefore’s of how to play, what pitfalls to avoid, how to practice a tune various times slowly adding complexity, and so forth.
Anything like that available? Anybody planning on making one like that? With slow motion shots of fingering?
Haven’t tried any of the DVDs myself but I run across this one on eBay a few times: Learn to Play Irish Tinwhistle McCullough DVD. I am not sure what’s up with the sunglasses though. I own several of McCollough’s books/CD sets already.
When we saw Gráda last, Alan Doherty mentioned that he was looking into doing some sort of whistle tutorial DVD or CD. Not sure when we can expect it to come out though!
this one was great -----------he is fantastic -----------but when i used it years ago it was on VHS and i had to transpose it to US speed-------------if you guys find the dvd let me know, he has fantastic ornamentation
