I just bought the vinnie Kilduff whistle tutor and was a little dissapointed in it. What do you guys think of it?
Does anyone know of a good tutor for whistle for intermediate player?

My impression of this tutor:
Vinnie: Hi, I am Vinnie Kilduff and I am a great whistle player. My playing sounds good, doesn’t it? If you practice really hard, you might someday get decent, but I’ll still be playing 25 years longer than you.
Hee.
I like L.E. McCullogh’s 121 Favorite Irish Session Tunes book and 4 CD set. You can listen to the tunes at slow speed, look at the sheet music (I cheat and write the letters of the notes above the staves) while playing, and eventually work up your speed. This is great for collecting tunes. As for ornamentation, Dale just said some good things about Mad for Trad.

Vinnies Vid . . .
I bought this some years ago as my first ‘instructional’ for the whistle and I have to admit, I watched it once and then binned it!
I seem to recollect the first quarter of the tape was devoted to a rather uninspiring, personality-less Vincent flogging a certain make of Irish whistle . . . and the rest . . . well, you guys have said it all.

Kinda says it all Personally …I cheat shamelessly..I wheedle Kari into transposing sheet music into those little finger placement dots LOL. After 15 years of flying
jets off carriers my hearing has deteriorated to a loss of about 20% in my right and 15% in my left, So I really dont trust my ability to pick out notes anymore

In light of the responses on this thread I am selling my copy of the video. Anybody want it? ![]()

I’ll step out here and say that while the video could have been more useful if he actually showed you a fully ornamented tune phrase by phrase, being able to watch an accomplished whistler do his thing is always a good thing to add to the learning diet… I actually recorded all the tunes that he played “with the band” onto my computer and slowed them down! He he… cheating is also a good learning method! Since I’m not an Irish resident I’ve got to do the best with what I’ve got! ![]()
hmm, I got this video as a gift and never looked at it, so maybe I have one to sell never opened, ha ha!
