Well, yes . . . how much do the videos help (as opposed to, say, a book and CD)? I’ve been spending so much on instruments these days that I’m getting awfully broke!
FWIW & IMHO applies to everything below:
If I attempted to create the world’s worst training video, I don’t think I could match the Vinnie Kilduff video on how to play a whistle. If memory serves correct, it starts off with an ill-prepared and uninformative opening by Vinnie about playing in the key of D, and then Vinnie proceeds to demonstrate tunes using an Eb whistle, making it a tad difficult for your typical beginner owning a D whistle to try and playalong at home. And the video goes downhill from there. But, suckers like me are born every minute. My copy remains un-resold, and stays in plain view in my music area as a constant reminder not to buy before checking things out. Don’t think I could bear the thought of having passed it on to someone anyway.(congrats to jmssmh). So the question about usefulness of a video is well put. I don’t recall our Board assessing whistle videos nearly as thoroughly as we critique whistle makers, whistle brands, whistle books, and whistle players including ourselves.
Won’t apologize for my comments, but having kept it in for almost 2 years, I finally found the forum to get this Kilduff video thing off my chest. I could have justified the comments by the need to warn others, but I really just wanted to express my own disappointment. Brother Steve’s website tutorial was magnitudes better for whistle tutorial and training than the VK video (IMHO, of course).

Sorry – I’ve been having out-of-town problems. I was gone last week and will be gone again next week. Tonight is a possibility, but I’ve been sick this week so I don’t know. I will get there. I’ve been looking forward to it! It might be week after next, though.
