No worries, it is still bound for the class. Wanderer and I have been talking about LOANER whistles I have that he wants to try. He “rejected” my O’Riordan set (someone loaned him the concert set) and my Bleazey though.
Renee likes the sound of the Whistlesmith better than the Dixon. The Dixon we had hurt her ears in the upper octive it was so shrill and this one does not. It has a more complicated (read breathy) sound than we typcially like though.
Our current plan (which the kids have not totally bought into yet ) is to teach them the Am. sign language part of a song called “If I Have Loved You”, the music (whistle and singing) and have them perform it for church services in a few months. We are working on the sign language part right now. These 6-7 year olds are sponges and want to do well. They are also VERY competitive.
Though, truth be told, I didn’t totally rejected the Bleazey
I said I’d give it some consideration after the trading madness died down. Considering how many whistles I have to review, and the fact that the Bleazeys have said that they’re having trouble keeping up with demand, I’ll probably hold off on considering them for a little while yet.
Oh, I knew that! I just forgot the appropriate emote, there fixed it.
I also did not know Phil was that swamped. The most I have had to wait for one of his whistles was a couple of months. Maybe I timed it just right? Makes me wonder just who is buying them since I am one of the only ones here taunting with them at this time.
Oh yeah, the song we did today was “As I have loved you.”
I get the impression from his email that they’re just barely keeping up with demand, and isn’t interested in getting into a waiting list scenario. In his own words: “Waiting lists are quite offputting to the customer and mean that you don’t sell to players at the peak of their performance and popularity”
I have one of these in Low G. I bought a Sweetheart whistle from a board member and she tossed it in free of charge. As I recall it was barely playable. It’s been sitting in my closet for months. I’ll dig it out and either post a review or if Wanderer is interested (PM me if you are) I’ll ship it to him to do the honors.
OK, in the interest of whistlology and the greater good, I think I’m going to bite the bullet and buy a whistlesmith low D today so that I can review it. I also feel kinda guilty, given that I live in maine and all, and I just wouldn’t be a good main’ah if I didn’t have a wicked good whistle don’t ya know
Cool deal! You’ll sacrifice for the rest of us. I’ve been watching the Whistlesmith website and he seems to be making a plethora of different designs. Fairly cheap too. Maybe he’s on to something.
There’s been a previous thread at least partly discussing these somewhere - haven’t time to hunt for it now. I know because I said on it that a pupil of mine had acquired one (low D) a few months back. It’s OK for the price, but the tone-hole placing/2nd octave fingering are a fair way off from average - deliberately it would seem, given the fingering chart supplied with it. We both found that off-putting, and the sound, whilst pleasant, lacked focus and couldn’t be pushed. Suffice it to say it isn’t getting played and the pupil has now acquired a Kerry plastic head low D which we both think is very decent. I wouldn’t bother with them.
