Whistleshop

Is it still there? I emailed and got no answer and both phone numbers I had were disconnected. I haven’t ordered from them in a couple of years, but their prices and service were always good.

Still in business, though the owner had health problems recently.

FWIW, I recently ordered a book from the Whistle Shop and got my order in a very timely manner.

Thanks a lot! I’ve been thinking of ordering an Overton Low D from them (they seem to have the best price in the world on them) but I was worried because I noticed parts of the site hadn’t been updated since before Christmas and I couldn’t reach them at all.

Well, I finally just tried to do a little checking around on this yesterday.

I have ordered from The Whistle Shop twice with no problems, but my last order was well over a year ago (maybe close to two).

We all know Thom has had health problems.

I read here on the forum the other day that they lost the lease on the building.

There have been several people who have ordered and/or emailed TWS and have had a hard time getting their order or a response.

I called the phone number I found online (in multiple places) yesterday, and got a “no longer in service” message. I noticed that they had a suite number, so I tried to find other businesses in the same strip. I found a nail salon and called, and also got a “no longer in service” message.

There is also a convenience store with the same address, which I called. The lady I spoke to said that she had just started back to work there that day, but that she didn’t see or know about a store called The Whistle Shop at that address.

So it looks like, at the very least, they are no longer in that location.

However, it looks like they have a slow session scheduled for today (different location), so it seems there still must be some activity going on.

I say none of this necessarily as a negative on Thom or anyone else at the shop. As I said, I’ve ordered twice with no problems and have actually talked to Thom once or twice over the phone (over a year ago) and he was very helpful. I just hate so many people having problems dealing with them.

If they’re in business, they should have a working phone number and/or reply to emails within a reasonable time, and ship orders out in a reasonable time. If they’re not able to do these things, then people should be informed up front. IMO, it’s the lack of communication that’s the problem. As it is, when you go to the site, it looks like everything is fine.

I wish the best for Thom and hope things are back up and running again soon, if that’s in his plans. I am in no way trying to damage his reputation, just trying to inform people.

More information would be great. I only spent 15 minutes or so looking for numbers and making these calls.

I’m just going to state facts.

Over the last couple of years or so, there have been a number of threads and posts and PMs from people expressing concerns about Thom and The Whistle Shop because of problems with orders and other transactions. This is factually true.

At some point along the line, I removed The Whistle Shop, a formerly preferred vendor of mine, from the C&F website list of places to buy whistles online.

I made some attempts to reach Thom, who I used to have no trouble reaching, a while back and got no response. I’ve not heard from him in a long time. I do not know what has happened.

Here’s another fact: People are completely free to continue to order from The Whistle Shop and some apparently still do.

I bought my very first whistle from Thom and hate to lose such a good shop, but I don’t think I’ll be ordering anything high-end from someone I can’t get in touch with.

Alas, his health has put a sever damper on his business life. I have no doubt whatsoever that he would far rather it hadn’t. It is clear that his business was a good one.

Hi Everyone,

The Whistle Shop is indeed still in business. My health is well on its way back to 100% now (thanks so much to everyone in the worldwide whistle community for your kind support!!!).

It sometimes takes me longer to answer emails, etc. than I wish it might; thank you to everyone for your patience…

YAY! Glad to see you here to dispel the rumors! And extra glad to hear your health is so much better!

Nice to see you’re okay, Tom! I remember when I stopped by a couple of years ago and bought some Susatos. I don’t know if you remember or not, but I’m Josh.

Yep…good to see evidence of you, Thom…and that your health is better.

Coincidentally, I have an email hovering in e-space, awaiting your answer. (About a Susato Low F)

And to everyone else…I gotta say I’m quite happy with the whistle-purchasing business I’ve recently done with the Whistle Shop. Fast and efficient.

Glad to hear things are looking better Thom!

So glad you’re still in business, Thom! Like I said, I bought my very first whistle from you and you still have the best prices in the world on some things.

Damn my lack of patience-I just ordered an Alba from Stacey! Oh, well. You’ll be getting an order from me soon!
