Can someone provide tab ( little holes filled and empty) or just a list of the notes played for Hector the Hero? I am new to whistling and I can’t read music. ![]()
Sorry, I do not do tabs, too many small dots, too little context.
Hector is a fairly straightforward tune, and played at an easy pace. You might put in an effort to learn it by ear. ![]()
There are also plenty of ABC’s on the 'net from the usual sources like JC’s tune finder or the Session. ABC’s are a common and accessable form of notation which you might want to learn. You probably know the alphabet already.
And I recall there being whistle lessons for the tune on YouTube although I cannot vouch for any of them.
Mick’s Virtual Whistle has a nice duet version by Mick Woodruff and Gary Humphrey with notation provided if you could read dots.

Nice new icon there doggie.
If you only know tab, then you’re stuck with instruments that finger like the whistle. The best thing would be to put in the (minimal) effort required to learn stave notation; second best would be ABC. Both will open up a huge number of resources to you.
Here’s a lovely rendition:
Lovely playing, and they’re great musicians. For me, that version is a little rushed though. I’ve had a look, but can’t find one that I really like at the moment. It’s a really moving lament, especially when you know the story behind it.
Don’t like it (smart in its own way, but too pulled about and jazzed up for me)…
