I have an O’Riordan C whistle to sell. It is (I think) aluminum with a black fipple.
I paid US $ 90.00 for it about 2 years ago. My teacher has someone who wants to buy it, but I doubt she will want to pay that much for it.
Anyone have any ideas about what I should ask for it?
The last D/C set of O’Riordans on eBay went for several hundred dollars, maybe even as much as $600 if my memory serves. Then again, you know what they say – the memory is the second thing to go. (I forget what the first one was…)
Lizzie, $90 US is definitely a fair price to ask; if anything, it might be low.
If it were me, I’d ask Loretto if she thinks the buyer will make good use of it. I wouldn’t mind letting it go for less than I might be able to get for it if I thought it was going to a good home.
(Of course, if it were really me, I wouldn’t be parting with the whistle. Heck, at $90 I’d be tempted to buy yours, even though I already have an O’Riordan C body.)
They (d/c sets actually) have gone for as much as $800 on the open market. You would be foolish to sell it for a small amount. You could put it on eBay with a $200 starting price and no reserve and see where it goes. Pat O’Riordan has a three year waiting list. He’s in his seventies and isn’t taking new orders. Good luck.
Consider also donating it to the Jerry Freeman benefit raffle…it would make ticket sales soar!
Liz - That sounds awfully low. Is it a Traveler (i.e., black anodized aluminum with nickel silver ferrules) in good condition? If that’s it, they’re among my favorites, and I probably have a year or so to go before seeing my soprano D and Bflat Travelers. Pat continues to charge prices that he’s comfortable with and that are terrific value IMHO.
As Jessie said, O’Riordans garner big bucks on the open market and are now really the only way to obtain them.
