Whistle identification

Hi all,

I found this corker of a clip of Sharon Shannon knocking out a version of Rathlin Island on youtube, on a great sounding whistle, I innitialy thought Greenwood, large brass looking band at the foot and the mid section and base of the headjoint, but at 1 min 42 seconds you can see the mouthpiece a bit, which looks all black with a small ridge any one know who the maker is???

cheers sponge

As I read this post, 24 people have read it previously to me. No one has answered. Since no one has mentioned the lack of a link, maybe I am missing something.

Best to all.

You’re missing the all-knowing power of Teh Google: “shannon rathlin youtube”.

But here’s the linky. Handy things, those.

At first I thought it looked just like my O’Brien blackwood ‘Rover’, but the tuning slide is quite a bit bigger.

Nice clip.

Sorry byll,

a link would have been a big help, thanks Mt

sponge.

This has been discussed before, although I can’t locate the thread. It’s an O’Riordan.

Sharon is also a fine fiddle player:

This is the same “Island Paddy” set and setting that was borrowed by Kevin Crawford and LĂșnasa for the Kinnity Sessions, with Waterboy and LĂșnasa founder Trevor Hutchinson on bass in common. Video of Kevin and LĂșnasa is here; he’s playing a Susato C:

I would say O’Riordon as well.
