WHISTLE HEADS

does anybody know if replacement whistle heads can be purchased for generation whistles? and if so where. i cracked one (c whistle) trying to loosen it. done it before, but this time not so lucky.

What key whistle is it for? Someone here may have a spare they can give you.

You could also buy a really good retrofit head from Mack Hoover.

it’s in the key of c . not sure i’d want to go with a hoover, they are bit pricey , and i would rather spend that money for a new whistle. i’m just looking to replace with it with some thing of like value.

You’d probably be better off just getting a new whistle.

Or, you could try to repair the crack with some CA glue (Super Glue). Try carefully prying the crack open and dabbing a little CA in it. I did this to my Gen C and it works fine.

Be sure it is dry before playing.

But if your lip adheres to the whistle, you have a good excuse for playing! “Sorry, Honey, I’d like to quit whistling and mow the lawn but my lip is stuck to the whistle.”

Mine cracked without ANY action, just ‘sleeping’ in a drawer. I replaced it with a Waltons Mellow D head. It’s now a different creature, but IMHO sounds better than with the Gen head. Plus, you get it partially tunable. Check, you may like it, and Mellow Ds may even be cheaper than Gens C.

Ah, to be accurate, the action worked with the nickel-body blue-headed Generation. I’m not sure about the brass bodies; they’re just a touch thinner, so you’ll have to check it yourself.

Most whistle players have a cracked generation C head in there whistle drawer  doing what you tried.

me too

You would not regret spending the money for a Hoover mouthpiece (at least in my uninformed opinion).

thanks everybody for your responses. i think i might try a hoover mouthpiece. by the way i ordered two more gen c’s to replace the broken one. isn’t that how it works? break one buy two?

Tha’s a good start. However… shipping is most likely the same for six.

From the title, I thought this was a thread about typical C&F members.

I thought the correct term was “fipple head.”

Yep, definitely some of THOSE around.

I think the best alternative is to steal your friends whistle head joint and replace it with your cracked one!

P.S. a “Fipple” is the plug beneath the windway, it isn’t a whistle head joint or embouchure.
