Replacement Generation C Fipple (mouthpiece)

I am sure this question has been asked before. Is it possible to just buy a replacement Generation C fipple? I search the site a bit but could not find an instance of this question.

Thanks.

Unless you get lucky, gen replacement heads are not available. Just buy another whistle. Save the old body and have Mack Hoover make you a head for it - blacktop or whitecap. Heck, don’t buy another whistle just have Mack make you a head.

Oh, another question… I bought recently Gen C whistle.
It seemed that it’s a good one, but nonetheless, my engineer nature kicked in, so i wanted to tweak it.
But, i spotted a small crack on the bottom of the head (it’s a few parts of a mm wide and a half a cm long). Should i even try to behead it or not?

On the subject, one of these days i’ll go for broke and try to tweak my first Gen D. I have Dix Trad and it’s all i need, so i’ll try to enhance the Gen because i like it’s sound (i think it’s kinda fuller than the Trad’s) and if i manage to get it into tune and reduce sthe squeaking, i’ll have two good whistles.

In my experience the Gen C’s have been one of the most difficult whistles to behead. Certainly the most difficult within the Gen family. I’ve done about five of them over the years and each one was a devil. If your head is cracked you might be out of luck because the force needed to take it off might worsen the crack. Either way, you’ll either have an untunable whistle or a cracked whistle. Unless yours is an especially spectacular one that you’re afraid of ruining, I’d just go for it and buy a new one if it breaks.

This morning I got it off without propagating the crack any further. I have some very fluid super glue that I will use to cement the small crack. I’ll just use very little. I’m going to sand down the fipple end of the brass tube where the fipple fits onto and add some cork grease chapstick to the surface for easier movement. I see how this works out.

Sounds like a plan. You can also wrap a few turns of electrician’s tape around the collar of the mouthpiece to help bind the crack. Tape is not an uncommon sight on old, favorite Gens.

You might want to drill a small hole at the crack tip to blunt it. It worked on Spitfires…
