Hi, everbody, Last week was my birthday and since I was in Columbia, Mo on business, my brother and sister in law took me out for a very nice dinner followed by an even nicer little music session. I loved it because it was the first opportunity I have ever had to actually play in a group with other whistle players. My 10 year old nephew joined in with a cute little whistle he bought at a state historical site. I opened my whistle case and invited Zach to say hello to my little friends. He was facinated - it was the first time he had the chance to explore whistles in other keys.
You should have seen his face when he picked up the little F whistle. You all have seen it many times before - the look on a musician’s face and the set of the hands when they are falling in love with an instrument. Zach was so taken with it - he just held onto it and played it all evening. It just so happened that I was never all that taken with the F; it was just too little and too shrill for my tastes. But now I know why I bought it. The little Generation F whistle found a little boy and now they are making beautiful music together. By the way, he is getting a B flat and a C for Christmas.
