Whistle by French maker Jean-Pierre Le Meur on Ebay

There is a whistle on ebay that is looks pretty good but the bidding starts at $90.00.
I ask the seller about it and he reported he ws Jean-Pierre Le Meur and referenced the discussion board here.

Does anyone have one of his whistles? How do they stack up?

Here is the link to the auction if anyone is interested:

Half a year ago I was at a session in Sweden were a piper showed me an aluminium whistle, which he said was handmade in France.
The picture on E-Bay is not very clear, but I am quite certain it is the same as the one I played. It also had this brass band above the tuning slide.

The whistle I played looked, felt and played very much like a chieftain soprano D, although the French whistle was considerably rougher in its finish. It didn’t look very professional to me. Then again, it could have been an early model.

One of the most outstanding things about it was the deeply cut finger holes (you can see that on the EBay picture).
Personally I don’t find this comfortable for playing. Too sharp is also not nice, but you could loose your fingers in these holes - no easy sliding up and down notes.

…we might see a more detailed review when one of the message board members has won the bidding

As I seem to be the only one on the board, who owns a Le Meur whistle, I think I should write a few words about mine. I got my Le Meur two months ago via Ebay too, this seems to be Jean-Pierre’s way of selling his whistles.
The craftmanship looks maybe a bit raw, the block is held by a screw on the side, and the chamfered holes do feel better than they look.
But it’s a nice whistle for sure, a rather smooth player with a nice little chiff and well in tune with itself. A nice feature is the very well made tuningslide.
Ok, to be honest, I don’t play it that often - too many other dear ones around, that want to be played - but it’s a nice whistle for a reasonable price, I think.

I own a JP Le Meur. I classify it amongst the best I own (Chieftain, Burke, Overton, Harper, Alba, Shaw and a lot of the cheap ones). I consider it to have a better sound than the high chieftains, but not as pleasing as my Burke WBB. It also takes a bit more breath control. It looks very handmade, which I don’t consider to be a drawback.
