I am a beginner-to-intermediate Whistle player and I have this plan, (desire, dream) that once I become competent on the Whistle that I would take the next step and try to go to the Irish Flute. It is not that dislike the Whistle, I love playing it and I love the different tonal qualities that the different keys and makes of Whistles have. It is that I also love the sound of the Irish flute. The flute that I was thinking of is the Casey Burns Folk Flute. I would like the opinions of Flute players on what they think of this plan and the Casey Burns Folk Flute. Thanks in advance.
Hi: I know not of flutes, but there seems to be a review of that flute here:

All the Best,

I think Casey Burns flutes are excellent and his folk flute is a good starter flute that won’t put you in the poorhouse while you decide you’re really crazy enough or hate yourself enough to become a flute player. Good choice.
I think the plan (to play whistle for a while and then also take up the flute) is wonderful! Crazy, of course, but wonderful. (Yes, it’s what I did too…)
As for the Burns folk flute, I can’t really comment beyond what I’ve heard from people on this board, because I’ve never played one myself. People sure do seem to like them, though! Even very experienced players say they’re very nice.

…how about THEN adding uilleann Pipes…!!!
..Glglglglgl…
That’s my plan, but there are som financial problems involved.
And I who believed Irish flutes where expensive when I upgraded from whistle to flute
I always thought I was a little off, but now I know it. I started, a few months ago, on flute and have been picking up a couple of whistles recently…
sounds like a good plan! I did exactly the same…started on the whistles and now have moved to flute as well.
big challenge (finger spread) but this is going to be my big love I guess!
many did the same before you and me and many will follow…
have FUN!!!

If you want to try one out, there is a guy on Ebay that sells ones that he makes out of Polyvinyl I did what you are thinking of doing and bought one of these for $25 great deal it is easy to play (almost as easy to blow into as Bohm style) this would give you a chance to try playin flute out and if you decide you don’t want to you didn’t spend that much
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3716822426%20that is the one I bought if you email the guy he might make one for you it is great idea if you just want to try or if you want to learn and move on.
